cnot19 191 Report post Posted April 7, 2009 Yea nothing wrong with what Rivet did. Once the wings got in there and things settled down he backed off right away. He had no intention of throwing punches, just trying to save his team mate from getting a beatdown as he was pinned down. Anyway I want to see more of that form Ericsson
MotorCityMadness 388 Report post Posted April 7, 2009 Yep. Point being, over half those players were wearing visors. But they chose to make a note of Samuelson. As in, Sammy's a coward (euro) and Stafford? A good Canadian kid? I'm probably reading too much into this. Stafford is actually a dual citizen believe it or not...he was born in wisconsin, but then he lived in edmonton for quite a while before moving back to the states. Your prolly asking why I know this and the reason I do is he and I were teammates twice at Shattuck St. Mary's in minnesota.

uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted April 7, 2009 The Sabres wernt retaliating after a big hit. So they gave Filppula a little shove. Thats all it was to begin with. It was when other Detroit players came and joined the shoving that anything major happened. All good to see in a good game of hockey Just a shame our GM frowns on this type of play. Guest mindfly Report post Posted April 7, 2009 Don't forget that Ericsson has been battling a serious wrist injury and he might not even be 100% yet, im sure he's a great fighter when he's 100%
Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted April 7, 2009 This wasn't a fight. Also, Sammuelson needs to stop getting in the middle of stuff that he can't back up. It's getting down right embarressing. He's going to get himself or a teammate hurt.

Guest micah Report post Posted April 7, 2009 Way to go Ericsson! It was a crap fight and I was really hoping that Sammy would drop his shield and gloves for once, and I was really hoping that Captain Lidstrom would oblige Rivet, but hey, beggers can't be choosers. Good on Ericsson for answering the bell.
Guest micah Report post Posted April 7, 2009 i am sick of seeing this kind of garbage. a nice clean hit results in a big scrum. why? why can't people get hit anymore? the instigator rule needs to be enforced more stringently by the refs if this is to stop. Anymore? In what era were big clean hits not sometimes followed by fights or scrums?

BTW, the WIngs are despised on both sites, and it's not because the Wings have succeeded in the standings over the years. It has nothing to do with Buffalo homers. It's just Wings haters. BTW, the WIngs are despised on both sites, and it's not because the Wings have succeeded in the standings over the years. It has nothing to do with Buffalo homers. It's just Wings haters. To be fair, they have their reasons for their distaste for the Wings. The success of the Red Wings is seen by many fight fans as a great negative. The wings have proven that under today's rules, you can be very succesful without fighting. there was a tiome when you had to be willing and able to fight if you were going to play in the NHL. It didn't matter if you led the league in scoring, you were expected to fight when you had to, not to hide behind a ref. If you couldn't fight, your team would hire a Semenko to see to it that you didn't have to fight. Today, the rules are different and the Wings have taken advantage of the fact that there is no longer any need to fight, and a lot of people resent them for that. there aren't many true anti-wings types at either site, they're just anti today's wings. IIRC, both site rank Probert as the best of all time.

I agree with you if your going to throw punches make sure you can get your gloves off.

So however you go about doing that, that is every teams goal. I think most people that resent the Wings resent them because they win so often, not because they don't fight on a regular basis. Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted April 7, 2009 Wasn't much of a fight but he at least might have connected with a punch, which is far more than I can say for Crosby's fight. Shoreline are you serious? You can't even post on this without taking a jab at Crosby? This board sometimes. Instead of taking a jab at Crosby, why not take issue with the fact that Stafford wears a visor and Stafford threw a big ass right hook while he was on the outside of the pile and big E was on the inside of the scrum, practically tied up like a hog. Where's the vitriol? Where's the hate for Stafford? But let's take another jab at Crosby. C'mon people. Get over it.

Where's the vitriol? Where's the hate for Stafford? But let's take another jab at Crosby. C'mon people. Get over it. Stafford had a cheap shot, Big-E had a cheap shot hitting Stafford on the ground, big whoop. There was really no fight at all. But there was another thread relating to Crosby at the same time which is why I compared the two. You are the one who needs to get over it, and relax, as you don't even have a clue how many times I've told people obsessed with Crosby and feel the need to trash him in every topic to shove it. Blaayze 25 Report post Posted April 7, 2009 Rofl, Z being the people pleaser pickin up everyones stuff. ;D But seriously, I think when E gets his wrist back, and heck, even a little bigger muscle wise, he could destroy people in fights[Probably would have little problem just with his wrist back]. His reach coupled with the strength he does, can, and will have is just wow. Beast of a D-man.
Wombat 26 Report post Posted April 7, 2009 As an aside, Detroit's record in games in which a Wing has received a fighting major is 8-1-2. Of course, it can also be said that teams playing Detroit are 3-8-0 when they fight the Wings.
