On the list of players I'd be willing to loose to keep Hossa:

Filppula

Hudler

Conklin

...yeah thats it.

Frazen has too much potential and some of his mechanics right in front of the net are spectacular.

I also think that Filppula will make some team the next datsyuk in the coming years, and we already have one of those.

I had to read this post twice before i responded....make sure i did indeed read it right....Your comparing what Flip "Could be" to what Pavel "IS"

right now????

I would never go that far... Flip Will NEVER be what Pavel is or even WAS...... Flip doesnt have "IT" in him...(What ever the "IT" factor is- Flip does not have "IT")

flip has 38 pts in 77 games...on the 3rd line. that's not bad. and he's plus 10. keep him.

draper and maltby retire, replaced by helm and abdelkader for slightly less salary.

trade stuart for something inexpensive, there goes approx 4 mil.

keep kronner. he has potential.

chelios ******* retires!

sammy signs for 1.5 mil

huds signs 2.5

franzen signs 4

ericsson and leino sign on for the first few years at a discount to continue to prove themselves.

hossa takes a contract that pays out when lidstrom retires with slightly less money at the front end and stays long term and wins "cups"

i may be dreaming, but it sounds good.

abdelkader will retire before chelios.

I don't quite agree on all the particulars, but I think you are very close to being right. I think everyone is going to be surprised how the Wings roster looks next season. KH is a genius. The willingness to take hometown discounts here is amazing. More paycuts accepted when the boys all get a ring this year, too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you counting that Drapes and Malts would still count against the cap? Unless I'm mistaken, they signed at an age of over 35.

Or are you suggesting keeping Helm and Abdelkader in GR until they (Drapes and Malts) retire? Not sure how you meant that.

Hire Cheli as D coach.

Why is it so far fetched? Look at Datsyuk's numbers at age 24 with similar playing time. Very similar. I don't think he'll turn into a top-5 NHL player like Datsyuk has become, but I bet if someone said he would be the best two-way forward in the league six years ago, people like you would call them insane.

Hossa is definitely incredible, and I wouldn't be opposed to seeing some role player (not naming any names) go in order to keep him

Agreed...I am willing to give in order to receive. Hossa brings this team to a whole new level and other players are just expendable when he is at stake.

You guys are lucky. Win the Cup, then add a player of Hossa's talent. Life is good. :)

You do make it sound quite good!
