Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 9, 2009 It's a shame the Wings can't play every year -- the pageantry and atmosphere in these games is fantastic. Fenway is, of course, an excellent venue and the Bruins and Habs/Rangers gives you another solid O6 matchup. Should be a blast.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 9, 2009 Boston and NYR would make the most sense. Montreal has already had their turn. Plus having the Rangers being the opponent would be media frenzy (not that MTL wouldn't).
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted April 9, 2009 Boston and NYR would make the most sense. MTL has already had their turn. Yeah, but the thought is that they want to save Rangers/Islanders (when the Islanders have a better team) for new Yankee Stadium. Habs really don't have a venue for an outdoor game unless the roof falls off of Olympic Stadium again.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted April 9, 2009 Let's not forget the Flyers. Flyers/Penguins is being saved for down the road...2011 or 2012, likely.

Perhaps the Devils or the Capitals, if we're also saving the Flyers for a later matchup with the Penguins. Personally, if its not going to be the Rangers, I'd prefer a BOS/PHI matchup. Toronto would be in the same boat as the Islanders as far as holding off to put a better product on the ice (no offense Mack_Attack).
pjgj13 30 Report post Posted April 9, 2009 What they SHOULD do is make it a rematch of the previous finals with the winner the home team!!

Toronto would be in the same boat as the Islanders as far as holding off to put a better product on the ice (no offense Mack_Attack). The league will put the Islanders in the outdoor game when JT is established. Bank on it. Capitals are also a strong possibility. The thought is that the league will also wait and see who Boston has a really intense series with in the playoffs and that could also determine who is in the game. MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 They have Molson Stadium Which is too small. The NHL won't let Toronto have an outdoor game because BMO Field is too small and I suspect Montreal would be told the same thing about Molson Stadium.

Just for the record if you guys are referring the Molson stadium as the old Forum, then that place has turned into a cinema / arcade / mall / club / restaurant center lol. No, it's the Allouettes' stadium. And thinking about it, it would probably end up being to small as MacK mentioned, I believe it holds something like 25000 people. mjlegend 155 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 So long as NBC holds the rights, I doubt we'll see it in Canada anytime soon. I'm going to go off the board and say the Capitals. The possibility of Ovechkin outdoors would sell national advertising.
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 So long as NBC holds the rights, I doubt we'll see it in Canada anytime soon. NBC owns the rights for broadcast in the US only. The CBC pays the NHL for the rights to do their own coverage, for broadcast in Canada only.
