Game simulation - Wings out in first round

According to the article on TSN.ca:

The Bruins defeated the Chicago Blackhawks in six games to win the Stanley Cup in EA Sports' annual simulation of the 2009 NHL post-season. The simulation was conducted on the NHL 09 video game, which is made in Burnaby, B.C.

Reminds me of that computer simulation from last year, which said that Sammy would score a hat-trick in Game 1 of the finals, and lo and behold, he scores 2! Are they going to do that simulation again this year?

Yeah, ok EA. I play NHL 09 all the time and weird s*** happens in that game all the time. I'll trust Maggie the monkey before I start listening to a video game. I do not accept my computer overlords.

In my Doom simulation, NHL 09 was a cacodemon and lost to about 2 or 3 rockets.

According to my NHL 09, I'm the leading goal scorer for the Wings this year. Oh, and I also tend goal for the Griffins in my spare time, although I'm still pretty much 50-50 with Howard there.

Grain of salt, kids. Especially when you sim on that game, some really crazy stuff happens.

In NHL09, the team which wins the Stanley Cup is whichever team signs Sabrina Ladha <_<

And I notice Detroit always does extremely bad in the game...and in the offseason they lose nearly all their players.

the simulation is bs. ea sports almost always has the red wings not making the playoffs when u simulate nhl 09 because osgood is so bad. it also almost always has datsyuk scoring less than a point per game when i sumlated the season. so how do u think it will let them beat teams with good goalies like columbus.

The player ratings on NHL 09 are so bad that it took me many hours to get them to a franchise mode-playable state.

My only genuine concern is that since we won the Cup in 02, no team has made it out of the first round, and one team didn't even make it to the playoffs...

You sir, need to raise the difficulty. How is that even fun?

I don't know if you played the PC version, which is pretty much the same since 04. It is ridiculously easy game even on "difficult" setting.

The only way to kinda enjoy the game is to sim first 55 mins and play the 5 (and OT) (whole game = 15 real minutes, so one game will take you about 3 mins this way, because last minute of the game is a real minute too), you are almost always losing by one or two, it's still no problem winning the game, but at least it's not 15:0 after 2nd and the only "drama" is whether they get a shot on your goal or not.

Boy, that really gives you that genuine 2009 Red Wings experience, eh?

On the other hand, does this prove the switch exists?

Last year they were fairly accurate in predicting the winners through the first two rounds only falsely picking Montreal over Philadelphia, and San Jose over Dallas in 12 match-ups. They had the Wings and Pens losing in the Conference Finals. I guess this year it'll be San Jose and Washington in the Final.

Their picks this season are pretty similar to mine except for Detroit/Columbus.

Seems unlikely Chicago will beat Vancouver or San Jose.

it's ok we will win we have kristofer draper arguably the finest hockey talent in north america

Yeah well theres major differences between NHL09 and real hockey. For instance, in real life you can't shoot the puck through the back of the net. When the puck is on your stick in real life, you cant push it THROUGH the goalie and into the net. The players in real life have REAL intelligence and the players in NHL09 lack even A.I. because they were programmed so poorly. Seriously, skate 1 on 2 into the other teams zone and neither of those defenders will pressure you. They both skate straight back and stop about 3 feet in front of the goalie for an easy screen goal. The game is fun but has SO MANY unrealistic problems with the core and engine that I wouldn't trust it if it told me the wings won the cup last year...i'd call it a liar! lol. Seriously though, another VERY flawed thing about that game is the player ratings. Guys like ovechkin and Crosby are like 94 overall and while they have just as much offensive game as guys like datsyuk (if not slightly more) their defensive game is HORRIBLE yet datsyuk os only rated like a 91 and zetterberg 89. Same with hossa, better in his own end than body crosby and ovechkin combined yet he's rated like 89.

I love EA's NHL series but they have totally f***ed up this years version with glitch goals, juiced players, horrible player attributes...etc etc etc....maybe next year they'll work on the fundamentals instead of adding half assed new modes to attract more customers/more money. They need to fix whats there and been broken for 3,4,5 years now instead.

Anyways OP i'm not goin off on you at all i appreciate the info, i'm just saying I wouldn't trust the predictions this game made if my life depended on it

they do so bad because the player ratings are all messed up...i dont see how pit is almost the same overall as the wings...and only like 2 points lower in defense and I think even in offense...uhmm hello? pit is a 2 man offensive show compared to what the wings have
