Frodo Baggins explains why the Sharks are losing

If anyone's looking for a fun read this aft while we wait for the game, I though this was pretty solid. According to my buddy, the Sharks don't understand how to follow the hero's journey in the playoffs, unlike the Wings, who know exactly how it works.

If you're not a fan of LOTR and/or other adventure/fantasy stories, you might not get it, but I thought it was worth passing on anyway. He does some good work, when he actually writes about hockey.

The playoffs, though, are unique. Moreso in hockey than in any other sport, they are a dangerous business; a chaotic arena where anything can happen in an instant and the smallest twitch of a skate or bump in the ice can set in motion events that can destroy a team’s season.

Dead on.

Hahahahaha -- 3-0 Ducks!

I can't tell you how much I'm loving this. And they look exactly the way the article says, and as the annoucer on CBC just described: "It looks like one team wanting to win and one team hoping to win."

My boy here totally nailed it!

/yes, I'm still high off the Mule's efforts, but still ... I love me some Sharks fail

Considering the Ducks beat the Wings 2 years ago, be careful who you wish for... The Ducks are formidable!

Right now, if you offered Joe Thornton the blue pill, he’d swallow that motherf***** in a minute.

lol.

agreed. i have to admit that he looks a little bored out there... and i know that's unfair because it may be the way his face is shaped, but the guy doesn't look interested.

I have to agree. Seems that Wings fans are quick to forget how they cheered when Edmonton slipped into the playoffs as the 8 seed one year. We matched up well with them and couldn't wait to sweep them out of the playoffs and move to the next round. What happened in that series?

I will never choose my opponent in the next round because that opponent is the one that will beat you. No matter what, we are looking at a west coast road trip. Either Vancouver or Anaheim and both of those teams are scary. Its going to take 2x the effort that the Wings spent on Columbus to beat either of those teams.

That's totally true, so don't think I was rooting for us to play Anaheim. But we're gonna play the Ducks or the Nucks, and both those teams are formidable, so it doesn't matter too much to me which one is next.

Really, I just hate how everyone was all over the Sharks d--ks all year, and since I spent the entire season telling people that Thornton won't be able to lead them to anything in the playoffs, I'm loving this.

That's all. Heck, if the Wings could have played the Sharks in the first round, that would have been perfect, too!

Who cares who we play? We've got three more teams to beat in a series before we can hoist the cup again. Whoever, those teams are makes no difference. That being said if we are going to play the ducks I'd like to see the Sharks take game 5 so they can beat the crap out of each other for 2 more games while the Wings sit around.

That's good stuff! Here's an updated column from the San Jose Mercury News with the Sharks being in a 3-1 hole:

Even with the Sharks getting the best regular season record I thought let's just play them and see what happens. I should've prefaced with assuming all goes according to form. Well that's most likely not going to happen now. Even so, whoever the Wings play next will be tough and as long as they don't let up on the gas pedal they'll be fine.

I will be very upset if after reading this and telling everyone how true I thought it was, the Sucks come back to force Game 7 tonight.

I really can't even explain why, since the Ducks have been waaaaay dirtier to our players, but I hate the Sharks a lot more then i hate them.

I'm a big fan of the late Hunter S. Thompson and his sports and political writing, and I'm a writer myself. That article is very well-written, and the only thing I can compare it to is Hunter Thompson. As a writer, (although not about sports) I'm kind of jealous. I hope that guy is a paid writer, because he deserves it.

It's my buddy's blog, that I post here sometimes cause he's a big Wings fan. I dunno what the rules are around here about posting friends' stuff, but I think his hockey writing is great. He's a journalist in Toronto but he doesn't write about sports for a living. He does have a fantasy hockey column in a paper up here tho -- and I finally kicked his ass in our pool this year (thanks Luongo!)

anyway, I'm gonna have to send this comment to him tho, cause he's a huge Hunter S Thompson fan and he'll appreciate it.

The '07 Ducks were much more formidable than this season's Ducks. And we were without two of our top d-men in that '07 series. That's why we lost.
