Still don't like him much but I find it funny he made that late penalty call against Columbus which helped the Wings out. :D

You are right he did not hurt us. He did not help us either though. The linesman made the too many men call.

You're right. The linesman made the call. It's their job to watch the changes and make sure they don't have too many men on the ice.

Michael Arace.

Michael Peca:

"The linesman has to recognize that the guys with the armbands have put away the whistles, and they were letting us play, as they should," forward Michael Peca said. "You don't put a game like this on the line for that call."

Note to M. Peca: The Linesmen are responsible for making calls too. If you have any doubt that the cheating won't work, then don't try it.

 so true.

i've stated before that i think that a penalty should be a penalty whether it's midway through a 5-0 game or in the last minute of a tied game. that being said, i understand the psychology of a ref not wanting to make a marginal call with the game on the line (e.g. a minor hooking penalty that he may have called earlier in the game).

however, this was not a marginal call. you can argue that a little hook or a little hold is part of the game and shouldn't be called. however, you cannot argue that playing with six men on the ice is part of the game. they were cheating, and they got caught. had the call not been made, modin or whoever would have likely had an odd-man rush situation. why? because what'shisf*** came on the ice too early and played the puck when he shouldn't have. his cheating could have directly affected the outcome of the game in a way that a little hook or little hold is not likely to. it's a black and white call. they were cheating and got caught. i can understand the BJ's being frustrated with the call, but they should be mad at themselves.

this would be like homer standing in the crease and interfering with the goalie and, after a goal was waived off, saying, "you shouldn't call goalie interference at the end of a tight game." what? of course you should. that would be cheating (if indeed he was interfering) and shouldn't be allowed just because it's the end of the game. god. it's so annoying to me. you cheated and got caught. STFU.

If Columbus would've made any other infractions that wasn't too many men, they would've gotten away with that. But that particular penalty is so AHL.. such an embarrassing mistake for an NHL team to make. You're expected to know better by the time you hit the NHL. There was no way they could've turned their cheek to it.. it was just pure stupidity.

Exactly, the Columbus announcers seemed reluctant to count the dots on the screen after they circled all 6 BJs players on the ice at once...1, 2, 3, 4, 5...oh...6...yea oops. They can only blame themselves for that one.

Took the words out of my mouth. But I was very impressed that when Holmstrom was knocked down by CBJ into Mason that the goal was allowed to count and there was no penalty!

I caught that too...it was almost like they expected the video evidence to back them up, then were surprised when it didn't. So they switched to the "he was only a few feet from the bench" argument. Like others have said, it's not like a hook, hold, trip, etc. because those all come in varying degrees of severity. With too many men, it either is or it isn't.

When I saw that Danny O was doing the game, I said "guarantee we get a goal waved off in this one" to the gf. Happy I was wrong.

I don't agree with that statement as it implies that he made a bad call that helped us for once. Instead I see it as "O'Halloran didn't make a bad call that hurt us for once!"

The call was a no-brainer. The BJ skater off of the bench intercepted a puck that Holmstrom(?) was in the process of trying to race to and drive into the offensive zone with. The BJ player fresh on the ice intentionally stopped a potential Red Wings offensive opportunity while the guy he was replacing didn't even have one foot on the bench. Redmond was right when he said that the officials would call that all night long... and they should. If the puck had inadvertently hit the BJ player's skate, I think you might be able to argue that the play should have continued.

Actually, the officials helped us twice on the same play. They missed Homer's highstick as he knocked the puck out of midair (the puck was over his shoulder), and when he dove to clear it out of the zone, it should've been whistled down. So, for once, thank you O'Halloran.

All part of his plan to win us over before retracting three of our goals next round due to imaginary goalie interference calls.

In all actuality any ref with eyes would have called that, just like a puck over the glass delay of game.

Is Peca complaining about the refs not letting the Jackets cheat? :o

haha...yes, that's exactly what he's doing. and i'm sure he'll keep complaining the entire time he's on the golf course.

?? i was pretty sure homer swept a sliding puck at ice level. i haven't seen the replay but i don't remember any high stick or any other mention of high stick...hmm...

I didn't either at first, and I haven't heard it discussed here at all. But after the game, I turned on CBC, and Ron, Mike Milbury, Kelly Hrudey and P.J. Stock were discussing it. They showed Homer as he knocks the puck down out of the air. His stick is a little (not alot), above his shoulder. I'm glad it wasn't called, but it sure looks like a high stick.
