Yzermania 156 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 game 3 positive...I'll be there! 3 rows from the ice. I'm beyond excited. I think we will take it, we haven't been playing all that great at time and are keeping even with them, then when we turn it up, we're dominating, if only they could turn it up from the start and oh yeah..shoot at hiller's blocker, not his glove. Guest MrSandMan Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Some forums have post-GDT. I would vote LGW's go that way too... GDT get's too long and off topic. I said this in the GDT: I'm not sure why some Wings fans are overly upset over this loss... though it sucks whenever we lose, it's just not likely we'll skate 16-0 to Lord Stanely.... BUT what is important is look at the way we lost today. 10 minutes of effort in regular time, and determination to force OT, to a grueling 3 periods (and a total of 100+) minutes played, yet we still were determined not to give up our outstanding playoff record. Now look at the playoffs and the minutes played by Ducks top players.... no WAY in HELL are they going to skate with the Wings rolling 4 lines down the stretch! Though the loss isn't fun, it still shows the heart of this team. We are CHAMPIONS like the Ducks have ever seen before. They are in for BIG surprise! I'm calling Wings in 6, but I'm also thinking Wings in 5. Either way, Wings advance, Ducks go golfing. You heard it first here.
Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 As much as I hate losing, I think we needed to lose one, we haven't played well the last 3 games (including game 4 against columbus) and I think this will help get the boys back on their game!! No Big Deal, just play better and we'll be fine!

It's frustrating to take a loss, but it's not like they didn't compete today. In my opinion, they played as bad as they could play today. And they still took a great team to 3OT's with that effort. If the Wings play well, they will win.
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 The last 60 minutes of that game, they really shut down the Getzlaf line. Even in the third period, they weren't really getting much. I thought the best defeceman in the game for either team was Stuart.
Cern 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Is Rafalski on schedule to return for Game 3? Having him on the ice (and fresh at that) will be a huge boost for us, Chelios isn't the answer for us.
Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 The big plus for me is knowing we have another stud on the blueline. Ericsson just looks the part. If only Lils could get healthy and hopefully Raffa is ready to go tues. Having a pair like Lilja and Ericsson as your 3rd line D would be great. Don't know what the deal is with Draps, but adding his speed to Helms on the 4th line is gunna be a big plus to. ? is who is Babs going to sit out off the present 4th line? I think we played a good game, not our best by a long chalk but with better shot selection we should have won this 2nd game. Still, both teams have got to win another 3 to go any further. Lets keep our fingers crossed that we can nick the 3rd and put the pressure back on the Ducks.

I never realized how important his stick is on the blue line during the PP. I think they have to play him and Draper and sit Kopecky.
Guest MrSandMan Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I never realized how important his stick is on the blue line during the PP. I think they have to play him and Draper and sit Kopecky. I agree with this. When Draper is near top health (no nagging injuries), I would say sit Kops and let him rest. He's been a good 4th liner, but Draper is more important to this team as he does PK's and Faceoffs. But I wouldn't put Drapes in if he has nagging injuries. The beauty of this team is their depth... nobody can match it!
under_par_00 45 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Kopecky has to be the next to sit, he has not played well. Hopefully Babs wont leave Kopecky in because of his "size".
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Stewie was fantastic! Probably one of the best if not best game since he's been a Wing.
hoogs 8 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 We completely outplayed them from the 3rd period on............that being said WTF happened in the 2nd? I don't think I've seen the Wings play that bad in awhile. They were stuck in their own end most of the period.
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Al Sobotka is the octopus guy. I agree, lots of positives. We got better as the game went on, and without wanting to sound like a total homer, we were better in overtime. And the fact that Babs can put out the 4th line and not only watch them play smart defensively, throw hits, but also see them creating some chances is great. egroen 384 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 From the third period on the Wings dominated almost nonstop until the goal in the 3rd OT. I thought they played a lot better yesterday than they did in the game 1 win. Hiller was awesome, but it wasn't just that. Rebound after rebound were bouncing over Wings' sticks when they were facing an empty net. It was weird how often it happened. Luck played a big part in that Ducks' win, and I do not think they can count on that for another 3 wins. The Wings are crashing the net and know what they need to do to win this one. Something needs to happen with Datsyuk/Hossa and I wish they did not take as many shots the second they cross the blue line, as those are easy saves and Detroit rarely gets to those rebounds... just set it up for a moment once you gain the zone. Helm, Stuart, Lidstrom and Zetterberg were incredible.

egroen 384 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I totally agree, Dats is not playing well. His last 9 games? 1 goal, 2 assists and minus 4. Very bad stats for Pav. And the strange thing is Dats is the Wings highest scorer against the Ducks. I started noticing him in the third and in overtime, but that line is just not getting anything going once they enter the offensive zone. Hossa and Datsyuk are just not that effective together. It's a quandry, because the Franzen/Zetterberg/Cleary line is playing so well, but I think you have to get Hossa off Datsyuk's line. You can make a small change and simply swap Cleary for Hossa, or a wholesale change of reuniting the euro twins, but I really hope they just stop trying to force Hossa to play well with Datsyuk - I just do not think it is going to happen. Datsyuk can take almost anyone - Holmstrom, Zetterberg, Franzen, Cleary, Hudler, Filppula, Samuelsson and even Kopecky or hell probably even Helm - and make that line dangerous. Just not Hossa. Broken 16 381 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Why can't this be posted in the GDT? Why do you care? I'm not in panic mode yet. Not even close. I think a little line juggling will go a long way. I thought we out played them badly in OT. We seem to be able to enter their zone at will. Our breakout and transition game is still strong, even without Rafalski. Our 4th line looked outstanding. Providing energy and scoring chances. Like I said, a few minor tweaks to the lines and we should be fine. A lot of Duck fans seem to think that the overtime loss will deflate the Wings. Not gonna happen. This team has been in this spot too many times before. They will come out firing in Anaheim.
xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 The Ducks won A GAME that was stolen by Hiller. They'll need to be much better if they intend on winning the series because they simply cannot win 4 out of 7 games getting out shot, out chanced and out played like that. Having said that, it seems like whenever the Wings have gotten knocked out of the playoffs in the past, they always out play their opponent and still lose somehow.
