Chase 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Pav is obviously frustrated he hasnt scored in awhile, but he is still playing some great hockey. He'll get one, I'm not worried about it at all really.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I question whether or not hes had a nagging injury or something that hes finally getting over, and I wouldnt base my assumption on that IF this "slump" didn't start BEFORE the playoffs. Everybody seems to forget that Datsyuk looked completely out of sorts in the last 2 games of the season. When he should have been battling to get those 98th, 99th, and 100th points, he wasn't making Datsyukian dekes or dominating the opposition. I'm pretty sure most people noticed this in the last few games of the season. It wasn't that he was snake-bitten - it was that he was literally not playing his game. Considering Datsyuk is all hands, I wouldn't be surprised if hes had some wrist issues.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) Babcock touched on this in the post-game interview. He said that it doesn't matter what he tells Datsyuk about how he played, Dats doesn't feel he's of any value unless he scores.. so he just wants him to score. He said he's doing an amazing job of making chances for everyone else and if he just waits around, he'll get his too. I hope for his sake he does breakout just so he feels good about the play-offs. He's been amazing this year both defensively and burrying the puck.
wmubronco420 25 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 he did good enough to earn him 3rd star, not bad for a guy in a slump
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I feel pretty terrible for the guy at this point. He's done everything he possibly can and the puck just won't go in the net. That flip play over the net was utterly brilliant.
clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I expect his line to be huge next game. I just have a feeling that the killer instinct will come forth in game 6. I wouldn't mind seeing Cleary get a shift or 2 with Pavs and Zets. Homer doesn't seem too effective right now 5 on 5.

Datsyuk has been amazing on the ice. Here's to Dats getting a hat trick next game and livening his spirits! :beerbuddy:
stormboy 47 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 He's playing as hard as anyone, but like I've said many times, his job is to score and not just to play hard. He's not a 4th liner who we can all applaud just for effort. I remember the announcers saying that he was 12th on the team in scoring. That's unacceptable, and he's lucky other guys on this team are scoring, or else he'd be blamed if this team already got eliminated, much like he did many seasons ago in 2004 and 2006. yeah, i mean, you're right. if we were losing there would be none of this cheery, aw-shucks attitude being doled out by fans right now. it's true, though, that we are winning, so i'm not too stressed about it. if we lose game six, and he doesn't score or set up a key goal, i'm going to be pissed, and it will be absolutely essential that he have a monster game seven. IMO, there's no way that the goals won't start coming really, really soon with the way he's playing right now. once he gets one, you can bet they'll start flowing. rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Datsyuk scores in Anaheim on Tuesday when the Wings need it most . Mark my words.

He might have been trouble by a light case of the swine-flu and he's just now getting healthy. Not out of the question.
dicksmack 33 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Pav had us out of our seats several times... He looked like he isn't hanging on to the puck long enough and is rushing things a bit. I hate it when slumping stars get the "he MUST be injured" kid glove treatment. It's so lame... Pav's offensive production, as pointed out above, dried up late in the reg. season. I think all the hardware nominations might have affected his focus and nudged him into a slump. His 1st rate all-around game is what makes him so valuable in the playoffs. Pav is creating good chances and it's a matter of time.
servo 15 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Just imagine the discussion on here and around the league had that little flip over the net bounced off the back of someone and went in the net.
MidMichSteve 1,115 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Posted this on GDT yesterday: To the people critical of Datsyuk: I think he was selected as one of the 3 Stars at The Joe today. His defense more then makes up for his recent lack of scoring in my opinion. He is up against the other teams top line most of the time. If you keep the other team from scoring that is as good as scoring yourself. The Wings are loaded with players that can score goals and I don't care which line puts points on the board as long as we have more at the end of the game. Just saying. j.hoop 64 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 he carried us all year, give the man a break. his time will come. zetterberg wasnt nearly as great in the regular season, and now hes stepped it up. the great thing about the team, not a one trick pony. dats takes the regular season, now mule, hossa, Z, and fil turn it up for the POs.
