Zeke 5 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 After watching and assessing Hossa's performance so far in the playoffs,is everyone still gung-ho on signing him long term for big bucks? I've watched this guy all year long and have considered him to be a sniper and a tank, and would be in favour of a long term contract, but he seems to be one dimensional offensively so far in the playoffs. I know he's a great backchecker, but his main skill seems to be the quick wrist shot at every opportunity. There have been times when linemates were open (Franzen today),and he chose to shoot, almost intent on coming out of his slump. Seven million in cap room can buy a lot of quality players out there. Am I off base on Hoss,or do we sign him long term?

Uh... man, I couldn't handle Kenny's job.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) If Franzen continues to outplay Hossa, i wonder what the chances of Hossa accepting Mule type money. Talking like, 4.5 mil? And I'd like to mention how insane it is that we have Franzen signed up for < 4mil. Edited May 11, 2009 by Z and D for the C
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) I didn't see Hossa staying past this season when he was signed, and I still don't. Ozzie's play has merited perhaps bringing him back next season, keeping more cap room potential for Hossa, but the main focus is keeping the team in tact, not throwing out a bunch of Wing players for one guy. If Kenny can make it work, he's sure got a miracle to pull off. I don't see it happening but if he does, well.. that's why he's Kenny. Right now I'm more worried about the Wings winning the cup this year, and Hossa getting his cup. Edited May 11, 2009 by Shoreline
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Hossa and Datsyuk are the reasons we're even in the playoffs this year. Sign him.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Hossa came here for one reason; to win a cup. We shall find out what happens soon enough.
Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I have always thought that Hossa isn't worth the cap hit, and that he ruins the team chemistry. I think that we should let him walk after he wins his cup with us this year.

Now that babcock is playing them like anyone who isn't retarded would, chemistry is great. Edited May 11, 2009 by Z and D for the C
Zeke 5 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Hossa came here for one reason; to win a cup. We shall find out what happens soon enough. And I sure hope he gets it! But a tough call on Kenny for next year and long implications for the Wings.
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Let him walk. Hasn't been a playoff performer so far. I'd rather have depth then see him come in at $7 mill. Seems like hes gone back to his Ottawa ways.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Hossa and Datsyuk are the reasons we're even in the playoffs this year. Sign him. Not even close. We could've easily made the playoffs, easily been a top seed, without Hossa. And its not even close.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Now that babcock is playing them like anyone who isn't retarded would, chemistry is great. This. Hasn't been a playoff performer so far. And Datsyuk totally has.

Rivalred 630 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 And I sure hope he gets it! But a tough call on Kenny for next year and long implications for the Wings. Agreed. We are in a tight situation as is and adding #81 would be interesting.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 And Datsyuk totally has. As if the regular season means nothing. Theres a reason Datsyuk is a Hart nominee, and Hossa isn't even close.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 You said he hasn't been a playoff performer. I think that's something of a strange point in light of Datsyuk's recent underperformance.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Also: lol @ the general ill will towards this guy. I'm sure it has nothing to do with tying up 23+ million in 4 forwards til kingdom come...
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) I've concluded that some people are just going to ride this guy no matter what he does and what happens. So have fun, I guess. Edited May 11, 2009 by Dabura

Guest Shoreline Report post Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) Not sure if I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, but if not, then FYI, Ozzie is signed for 2 more years. That wouldn't have mattered if Ozzie had f-ed up the postseason. The media was all up in the back side of his jock strap during the season creating some goaltending controversy and rest assured Oz would have got the blame if the Wings had an early exit. The Wings would relegate him to backup or find another goalie as a symbolic gesture of typical short-temperedness when it comes to goaltending. When it comes to goalies the guillotine comes down pretty hard in Detroit. Edit: But it's a foregone conclusion now that he has showed he is still the same Oz that won the cup last season with the Wings. Good enough to help them win at very least and that's all they need him to be. Even so, I'm still highly skeptical Kenny coughs up the money needed for Hossa. Gordie Howe hat trick 110 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Babcock's use of him has ruined it. Now that babcock is playing them like anyone who isn't retarded would, chemistry is great. Either way, he isn't really worth that much of a cap hit. We would be just fine where were were without him.
