D-mac recalled for game 6

Doesn't a player qualify to have his name on the Cup if they play part of a playoff game? Or does it have to be the Finals? Maybe they are doing this to get him another Cup, so they'll throw him in for five minutes to qualify him?

I dunno. I love Mac (and Downey), and would like to see them get a chance to contribute, or at least participate.

"Loving" a player doesn't mean the should they be on the ice during the playoffs. I'm a huge Mac fan, but Babs has plenty of better options to stick out there than Mac. Abdelkader's game yesterday was reason enough for him to stick around and Leino should get a shot before Mac.

I love Darren too, but that doesn't mean he should get to play (or the chance to contribute).

yeah, I know. And I know you're not being critical of my sentimental attitude toward both players. Not given the way the Red Wings organization sticks by its players and is loyal to the end (and always rewarded for said loyalty).

If Mac's experience plays a part in winning the Cup and Downey's heart is a contributing factor, I am all for it. Abby looked fine yesterday and heaven knows I would love to see Leino a permanent fixture in Detroit. But experience is a factor here. I guess we shall see!

I seen Mac play in 5 or 6 games this year, he looks pretty good, was skating strong and even had a decent shot going.

Contrary to most posters, having seen him and Downey play this year I would have no problem with him or Downey replacing Meech in Game 6, in fact I would prefer it.

The Red Wings do reward loyalty, but you also have to earn your ice-time come the playoffs. Point and case: Chelios

As for the organization sticking by its players, no doubt it what's given them their sustained success especially once the cap was instituted. I understand their system and why it works....I would never want them to deviate from it. However, this time of the year ice-time is earned.

No doubt experience is a factor here....but the Wings have plenty of it. It's not as if when a guy like Raf went down, the Wings absolutely needed to replace him with another proven vet. Meech stepped in yesterday for similar minutes to what Cheli was getting and was just fine.

Meech played defense for the Wings yesterday, not offense.

Abdelkader stepped in for Kopecky yesterday (and was great for his TOI).

Did you see the last 4 minutes of todays game? Brookbank, Brown, and Carter were on the ice the whole time and tried to start something. It depends on the circumstances in Game 6, but if we're up by 2 or more, the Ducks will go for blood and not goals. It's their style, they did it to Minnesota in a series they won, they did it to us, Ottawa, and then Dallas last eyar where they lost. I mean, it being Anaheim is a valid point here.

Why would they do that? Hockey players do that for message sending for the next game. If there isn't going to be a next game, they don't send the message.

As for D-Mac, I would not mind seeing him play. That is, if 3 or 4 guys get hurt and he has to go in. It's been a good ride, but it's just about over.

It's Anaheim...who knows why? Maybe they want to send a message for next year. Maybe they just want to hurt our guys so we can't get to the Cup...."We can't have it, so neither can you." Maybe they just like hurting guys. It's no coincidence the whole team plays the same way except for Selanne.

Until I see any proof that they have done this in the past, I don't think they would do it this time should the situation arise. I can't even think of any team offhand that tries to send a message when they are about to be blown out of the series (and have their season ended).

You have to either play 41 regular season games or play in a Stanley Cup Finals game. It is not enough to just play in the playoffs. A team can also petition to get a players name added if there is a significant reason such as injury or other extenuating reason (for example Meech got his name on the cup after the Wings petitioned it).

Teams don't goon it up when they're down several goals and they know they're about to be eliminated.

I've never seen a brawl of any kind occur right before the teams are about to do a handshake anyway. That would just look weird.

I haven't read any of the responses in this thread, so I'm sorry if this has already been posted.

I expect the Ducks to come out physical and aggressive tomorrow night. Desperation hockey, folks. They've got nothing to lose here. In that sense, it makes sense that they're bringing D-Mac up. Babcock is probably expecting a physical attack from the Ducks and wants him around to counter that.

That's only my guess, though.

Well, since the clucks have the last change, it would be pointless to get into a line change fiasco trying to get McCrappy out there against Brown (or whomever.) That wold totally be advantage clucks. Wings DOMINATED last game, why change the lineup? (other than if Rafalski is ok to go) But, of course, we aren't Babcock so, we'll have to trust him. Any word on Draper?

I would be absolutely shocked if Mac played at any juncture of the playoffs, especially tonite. He is merely up to have another voice in the locker room / because the Illitchs are a bunch of sweethearts.

LOL Getzy has looked pooped out there for sure. I think carlyle's eagerness to give him ice time EARLY in the series killed it for him. Should have spread it out and weatherd any storm THEN if we were in a even series let him take more time....He just tired him out early I think. It just shows the ducks lack of depth though. Their first line is tiring out and now our top lines can play more loosely and play their own game instead of sitting back defending their top line.

Then again, if they hadn't done that maybe they'd be sitting at home on the sofa watching us get ready to play in the conference finals by now. When you're a one line team, you can either play them and hope someone else steps up or not play them and hope for the same.

Let's make sure that if the game gets out of hand that we don't get caught into it and get hurt.

I've notice that Babcock is not leaving his stars out there at the end of the game if he doesn't have to.

Wise decision, especially against the Goonieducks.

Agreed. No matter how you look at it, they've already contributed, even having not played much.

My problem would be - if Babs expects strategic bulls*** from the Ducks - who gets removed from the game so those guys can come in, even later in the game?

You underestimate them.

I agree, though -- if all they want is protection, put Downey in.

Yeupp. It depends on what the Ducks' chances are of coming back with a win. If they're not close, look out.
