KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted May 13, 2009 Forget Perry / Pronger / Niedermayer etc ... Getzlaf is the one that needs to be shut down. His the one that either scores himself or sets up everything I think we need to switch up defense pairing put Lidstrom with Stuart and Ericsson with Rafalski. If we shut down Getzlaf we shut down the Ducks.
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted May 13, 2009 We could just get Ericsson to take him down in a fight...thats at least 5 minutes hes off the ice.
Zion 93 Report post Posted May 13, 2009 I'm hoping the Wings have figured this out already. Sarcasm aside, they simply have no answer for him. He has been able to pass, puckhandle and punch his way onto the boxscore, and the Wings have no answer. Fortunately, he is just one man, and we will win game 7 via our depth. If we shut down Getzlaf we shut down the Ducks. I'm a huge fan or big #15. Like you said, he's the straw that stirs the drink. It's really a testimant to his talent that the Wings know that if you shut him down, you win the game and yet he still finds a way to get on the scoreboard despite the fact that all 4 of our lines are defensively sound. Even on shifts when he's against the Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Lidstrom-Ericson group he can still hold onto the puck and keep it in our zone for an entire shift. It's gotten to the point where I can't breathe once Getzlaf gets the puck down low. He creates scoring chances every single time he's on the ice. If this kid could be this consistant over 82 games he would easily be a 100+ point player. Maybe even win an Art Ross.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted May 13, 2009 The Ducks only scored 2 goals in Game 6. The biggest problem for the Wings is to get some scoring. Our defense and goaltending has looked solid, despite Getzlaf picking up some points (mainly on the PP).

Even though we sucked last night, how many pucks bounced over our sticks and skates after overated-Hiller kicked a plump rebound into the slot? We won't be snakebit like that tomorrow night. Wings 5, Ducks 2.

Guest lilja4mvp Report post Posted May 13, 2009 this guy will be killing the wings for years, get used to it. he won't be shut down completely like nash was. meanwhile, datsyuk is being rendered ineffective by todd marchant. LOLZ
ducks4cup 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2009 Getz cannot be shut down. Best power forward in the league we are talking about. I do agree that the key to a win from the wings would be shutting him down though but thats nearly impossible if he is playing his game.

I do agree that the key to a win from the wings would be shutting him down though but thats nearly impossible if he is playing his game. That's why we're lucky that he's the only guy that can create offense out there. There's no difference between the Ducks 2nd and 4th line. Outside of Getzlaf, Anaheim is about as dangerous as a kitten in a tree. True. I think part of it was because of the ice, it seemed to be terrible. Oh man was it bad. I've heard people describe Anaheim ice like skating on the moon. Edited May 13, 2009 by Hank
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted May 13, 2009 Was Getzlaf bad in games 4 and 5 or was he shut down? It's similar to when Detroit loses: did Red Wings suck or was the other team just playing too well?

We won't be snakebit like that tomorrow night. Wings 5, Ducks 2. I was thinking that too. Many juicy rebounds but no one there to capitalize. Therefore, the media says Hiller is back. If the Wings would have been there to "one-time" just two of those rebounds in, then Hiller has never been the same since getting bounced in game 5. Lets face it, hockey has a lot of randomness to it.

Perry has been deadly this post season 7 goals in 9 games. Bobby Ryan was deadly in the SJ series (hasn't done much against the wings, but looked REALLY good last night), then there's Temmu who always has potential (could be better in this series though). Our defense and goaltending has looked solid, despite Getzlaf picking up some points (mainly on the PP). Agree...the Ducks only have 14 goals in the series (2.33 per game). In 4 of the 6 games, they've only scored 1 or 2. The problem as I see it is that they won two of those games. Shutting down Getzlaf or anyone else ain't the issue here. Perry is invisible without Getzlaf. Just watch a replay of game 5 when Carlyle split them up. Ryan? Ryan who? You might have to put out an Amber alert for him. I was unaware he was even playing in this series. I like Teemu, but when he has to play with <insert two crappy Ducks forwards here> he can't do anything. Anaheim's 3rd and 4th lines are basically AHL lines. Brutal. Rob Neidermayer has the offensive vision and hands of a cement truck. And he's arguabley their 5th best forward. Teemu's linemates seem fine, it's just that when he gets the puck, it's an automatic turnover. Anaheim's been complaining about that all season with him. He's just not that good any more. Getzlaf is the Anaheim threat. Shut him down, the rest is easy.

Perry is not invisible w/o Getz (game 5 is an example of nothing since we played a bad game all around). Bobby Ryan leading rookie scorer this year (sure you have heard of him). Like I said he hasn't done squat in this series but he had a VERY good game 6 and I am willing to bet that carries into game 7. Funny that you think our team is a joke yet the series is tied and we knocked out SJ. ***We have a much different system than the wings, which apparently none of you seem to understand since there is so much talk on these boards about our low scoring wins, etc... We are not a high scoring team. We are a defense first team. We win games by shutting other teams down (ie: game 6), not by scoring as the wings do.
