T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) The Wings are so loaded, so stacked with players, they can't even make a regular roster spot for a guy that scores the openning goal of Game 7 Semi Finals. The guy that is too small and who's game is too limited by many Wings fans standards, scores the second goal. The guy that is probably voted most likely to be the whipping boy since Robert "Lazy & He Sucks" Lang was traded, scores the third goal. The guy who was written off by a few other teams and has spent quality time on more lines than any one else, turns into the ultimate role player, the utility guy, scores the 4th and game winning goal. Our top guys get stuck muckin' it up in major battles with their top guys, duking it out so closely there's not any sign of daylight between them. So our depth guys step up and take over, and score the goals that win the game. Here's to Helm. Here's to Huds. Big Cheers to Sammy. And Here's to Dan Cleary. And you can't forget Jonathan Ericcson, wow. What a series. Edit: Oh yeah, and Fill a pooh la, holy shnickes he made some incredible plays tonite (on Sammy's goal) and in the entire series. Hell yeah. Edited May 15, 2009 by T.Low

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 I'll give up cheers for those guys. I wasn't in the GDT, so I'll use this opportunity to give my "That's My Sammy!" cheer. Sad thing is that Sammy and Huds are FA this summer. Depth indeed! They shut down our top guys and we get out the secondary, tertiary, and (oh, crap someone once told me what the word was) quadiary (?) scoring! With Helm and Ericsson coming up, the future looks bright!
Captain_Yzerman19 1 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Our depth got 4 goals tonight, Anaheim's depth had 9 goals in the playoffs (I believe was the number CBC said)

10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Thats why Hossa's hitting the road coem July 1st.
Theophany 110 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 This really gives weight to the "drop Hossa and re-sign our depth and add more to that depth" argument, and I whole-heartedly agree with it. Not that I don't like Hossa, but I'd rather have more guys like Helm, Hudler, etc. BTW, someone should look into what skates Helm has; get them for the rest of the team, too, so they can actually go 200% when they're in instead of 100% in short bursts. Datsyuk deserves the credit for that goal... his no-look behind the back pass was right on the tape of Sammy's stick.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Datsyuk deserves the credit for that goal... his no-look behind the back pass was right on the tape of Sammy's stick. It certainly was, and he took a big hit to make the play as well. But credit all around; Flip's diving play to corral the puck and get it to Pavel in a shooting position as well as Sammy standing around like a dummy and being in the right place at the right time. Guest Four Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Zetterberg's pass to Franzen on hudler's goal was great too! I was so ecstatic to see Helm scoree!!! Amazing.

With Helm and Ericsson coming up, the future looks bright! Thats why Hossa's hitting the road coem July 1st. I was wondering last night if this series and especially that game would have an impact on Kenny and Co.'s decision regarding Hossa. The role guys were such big contributors and to a large degree (with the exception of Lids and Z) the stars didn't carry the team. Our 3 superstar forwards would probably have lost the series if the Wings weren't so deep (look at the ducks 3 superstars without the depth we have). I wonder how much of that depth we can give up and still win even if we have Hossa. Datsyuk deserves the credit for that goal... his no-look behind the back pass was right on the tape of Sammy's stick. I agree, that was an amazing pass especially knowing the hit was coming, however, several times last night in similar situations (although not quite as good) Z and Dats couldn't pull the trigger or missed on the shot so Sammy should get credit for being able to finish. Wombat 26 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Remember going into last year's playoffs when everyone was worried about secondary scoring? My oh my how things change! In a 7 game series, a deeper team has a better chance of coming out on top. Detroit is so deep they scratched Maltby, a playoff vet with tons of experience that was actually playing pretty well! RyanK 1 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 I was listening to 97.1 yesterday before the game. They said something about Hossa that hit home. He turned down multiple 10's of millions to come here and win a cup, wouldn't it just be fitting here in a game 7 with the cup chances on the line, if he were the guy to step up and blow anahiem out of this series to keep our hopes alive. I called in. I said look, I don't know if Marian Hossa will hear this but hopefully the right people do. Hossa, did you come here to help us win a cup, or did you come here so that we would win one for you? Minus his 40 some goals this regular season, we'd have still made the playoffs, and minus his 2 goals against columbus, we still would have beat them. Im waiting for the type of production that would suggest the former, other than the later. So long Hossa, we've got some grinding type production players to sign with that money. Agree...I was pretty much on the fence until this series, but it's our depth that makes us great, not necessarily the stars. Hossa's awesome, but he's not better than 3-4 very good players put together. Every team, even the crappy ones, have 1-2 high end players. The difference is secondary (and tertiary) scoring. Rivalred 630 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 That's what she said.... And agree, the 2nd line scoring is what got us through this series.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 It's why I have so much faith going into Chicago. Our depth won us that Game 7, our star players havent really dialed in yet, Zetterberg has, Datysuk and Hossa have MUCH to be desired and if they get to that level, unstopable.
