russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 (edited) Usually when you're playing a matchup, for me personally, you see a more defensive guy who's not quite as dangerous offensively, but he's proven he's strong at both ends," Crosby said of Zetterberg, who broke a Red Wings' playoff record with 24 points last year Nope Sidney he is quite damn good offensively, but unlike you is awesome defensively too...Zetterberg may not score as often as Sidney Crosby, but he is a much more well rounded player, and sure as hell is still a huge offensive threat. Guest Four Report post Posted May 30, 2009 When Datsyuk comes back,. if he's 100% healthy, he should go against Crosby.. He's made him look like a ***** both last year and this year getting like 100 takeaways vs him.

Dats is an incredible defensive player, right up there with Z...but Hank should definitely draw Crosby. While Dats was great last year against Sid, Z really was the guy who shut him down. Z vs. Crosby Dats vs. Malkin

titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 Nope Sidney he is quite damn good offensively, but unlike you is awesome defensively too. But that's what Crosby was trying to say in the first place. He said that he usually goes up against checking line forwards who aren't that good offensively but when goes up against Z he's facing someone who is strong on both ends of the rink. I find it amazing how some of you guys manage to spin every single thing Crosby says into a negative. He says enough stupid s*** on his own... no need to invent stuff. The article goes on to basically say that Crosby has learned from Zetterberg and the Red Wings. What higher compliment is there? dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 Crosby is giving Z mad props. I find it amazing how some of you guys manage to spin every single thing Crosby says into a negative. He says enough stupid s*** on his own... no need to invent stuff. The article goes on to basically say that Crosby has learned from Zetterberg and the Red Wings. What higher compliment is there? It's same with Bettman. Even when he says something good about the Wings and their organization, some people manage to find some hidden negative message between the lines. From Crosby, who is usually very hesitant to compliment any opposing player, this is high praise.
Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 But that's what Crosby was trying to say in the first place. He said that he usually goes up against checking line forwards who aren't that good offensively but when goes up against Z he's facing someone who is strong on both ends of the rink. I thought the same thing. He says normally he goes up against guys who are better defensively and not as good offensively BUT he says Z is the complete package. He was complimenting him, saying he does the defensive job of most guys that play him AND ADDITIONALLY has impressive offensive skills as well (that is why they included this statement "who broke a Red Wings' playoff record with 24 points last year"). It was a compliment not a slight.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 Hehe, only on LGW can we take a quote from an opposing player praising one of our team's players and start a thread bashing him for it.
Stiffy 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 Well, come on. It is hard to think Crosby is praising anyone and he certainly doesn't seem able to just come out and say anything directly , "He's a damn good player." Last years SCF had enough evidence of that. Remember the 'he just lifted my stick' kind of comment after the legendary 5-3. Nope Sidney, you choked in the SCF with a 5-3 and were owned out there by the fricken Conn Smythe Winner on that 5-3. You wanted that trophy, you thought it was owed to you, you thought it was your little destiny and you whined like a little ******* school girl because of this annoying thing where a better player and team took it instead. Now you show a little more poise and we are supposed to admire you? Sorry, some players (like Hank) had it all along.

Selective editing. There was a soccer match, during the Cold War, between the Soviet Union and the United States. The Soviets lost 8-0. The following days' newspaper reported: During a recent soccer tournament the Soviet Union ended up in second place while the US team was next to last. *kidding Props to Crosby for finally realizing their are some pretty good hockey players out there. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 I'm pretty sure Crosby was praising Z. It doesn't take much for people to turn on Crosby's compliment into a negative it appears. I also agree with the sentiment that Z should draw Crosby's line when/if Pavel comes back.

Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 crosby knows first hand that zetterberg and datsyuk are the 2 best 2 way forwards in the game, as yzerman was when cindy was in diapers...they learned from the best. hossa's no slouch either. crosby found out first hand a year ago and it took him that long to admit it. but in crosby's defense, it's hard to humble a kid that's as good as he is, and that won the art ross in his 2nd year in the nhl. losing in the SCF is obviously the humbling experience that sid needed. and there definately isn't much more of a compliment to zetter than crosby saying flat out how good he is, so props to sid for actually giving hank a pat on the back. wingsownnhl43 14 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 i think Datsyuk and Zetterberg should BOTH be on Malkin. Malkin is more of a threat in my opinion than Crosby. Then put the Hossa, Filppula, Cleary line on Crosby.
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 What? I thought he was complimenting Zata? Saying he usually doesn't have to worry about the players matched up against him as offensive threats, but Zetterberg is great at both ends. Whats wrong with that? I think everyone needs to take a deep breath. Everyone is a little antsy and people are starting thread after thread over the smallest comments they think to be insults to the Red Wings. Let it go, guys. Finals start tonite, you'll have a whole broadcast to ***** about the Crosby love. GO WINGS!

Firehawk 305 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 Don't get on the OP too much. I think he just misinterpreted it. If you read it fast, it does sound like Crosby is bagging on Z, but when you read it again, it definitely is Crosby giving Z alot of props.

#18 the _Hoss_ 2 Report post Posted May 30, 2009 DETROIT – Last year, Sidney Crosby had nightmares about Henrik Zetterberg. The underrated Zetterberg walked away with the Conn Smythe Trophy for both his offensive and defensive heroics against Crosby and the Penguins. Crosby figures he will see more of Zetterberg right from the drop of the puck in Game 1. "Playing against (Henrik) Zetterberg, he's obviously a guy who is well-rounded as a player," Crosby said. "He plays well on both ends. Usually when you're playing a match-up, for me, personally, you see sometimes a more defensive guy who is not as dangerous offensively. But he's proven that he's strong at both ends. But for me, that's not going to change anything. I've tried to play responsible in my end for the whole playoffs and even before that. This is when all your habits try to pay off when you're faced with these challenges. So I don't want to change anything. And it will be a good challenge." Zetterberg agrees. "Last year we played a lot of minutes against each other," Zetterberg said. "And it was, for sure, a challenge. If it's going to end up being that this year I'm looking forward to it. He's a great player. He's got a lot of skill. You know, he works really hard, so you've got to be on your toes. You've got to play well, otherwise he will hurt you. "I think he has the complete package," Zetterberg said of Crosby. "He's scoring goals and making plays. He's working hard both on and off the ice. He's their leader. And one thing this year, you know, he's scoring a lot more goals than last year. Unfortunately we haven't been able to see too many other games, but if you watch the highlights he's been scoring some goals." -- Phil Coffey http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=424288&...vid=DL|NHL|Home
