If the Wings win the Cup this year, what era is more impressive?

The last time the Wings won 5 Cups in thirteen year span was 1943-1955. If they win it again this year it's 5 Cups in a twelve year span if you don't count the cancelled 2004-2005 season. I say the current Wings span is more impresssive given the four rounds it takes to win.

If we pull it out this year, I'd say this would be more impressive. When we won both times in the 90's, it was after just about a 40 year cup drought, so we knew it was coming. Also, we had a LEGENDARY team, and I can't stress the word hard enough.......Stevie Y, Feds, Shanahan.

This time, we've been able to sustain that Cup threat.....year after year, long after those players have gone. We're also missing a second line defenseman and 1st line star center. If we pull it out this year, it will be utterly amazing.

I think if the Wings win the Cup this year, the 1995-2009 team should be in the Dynasty section at the Hockey Hall of Fame no questions asked.

Here's a couple example pics I found for the 1960's Maple Leafs and 1980's Oilers:

Yeah, if ever there was a dynasty in modern sports, the Bulls with Jordan and the modern Wings with Yzerman and Lidstrom have to be it.

This is blasphemy, but I'd venture to say if we win a cup this year, this team is more impressive than 97-98. *ducks from the thrown rocks*

Only because the cap era was supposed to handicap us severely, and instead we are thriving.

I'll back you up on that one...regular season success can be a tiebreaker on that one too. We were 5th overall in 1997 and 3rd in 1998. We didn't win our division either year. We were 1st last year, 3rd this year with two division championships.

Four Cups in six years is damn hard to do though. The only reason the old era is 13 years is because it's being stretched to include a 5th. I'll say the 40s-50s if we lose, current era if we win.

Regardless of the cup, they deserve to be listed as a dynasty. No other team in the NHL can come close to our modern numbers.

agreed. This team is a dynasty without question, even if they don't win the cup. Even though I hate the university of Southern California with all of my heart and soul and the very mention of their name brings bile and vomit to my mouth, I can't deny that they're a dynasty. They're competing for the championship EVERY YEAR. Nobody is like that. It's the same thing with the Wings. Even if we don't win, we're damn close. and WE are the team to beat every season. that spells dynasty folks.

The Hubris of this thread is overwhelming.

There are already threads about which Wing should win the Conn Smythe and which era is more impressive.

I have no doubt in my Red Wings, but you guys need to try and be a tad bit more humble.

That's what this team is about, after all: Perfection, and humility.

It's not hubris when you're talking about "what if..." questions.

There's some arrogance (i.e. hubris) going around in this thread, but when your team is THE team to beat more often than not, you're allowed to have that sort of attitude.

I'm not suggesting we be egotistical ****** bags to teams when we win, but there's a certain factor involved when discussing the Red Wings and winning that has nothing to do with arrogance. Like Ozzie says, winning is what we do.
