MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted June 9, 2009 Despite only being one year into his contract extension with the Ottawa Senators, Dany Heatley apparently wants out. According to a report on ESPN, The 28-year old who signed a six-year, $45 million contract extension with the team in October of 2007 has informed the team of desire to move. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=281356
Holmstrom96 347 Report post Posted June 9, 2009 Are the Ottawa Senators an NHL team? I don't think I've heard of them in 5 years... Stupid western conference schedule...
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted June 9, 2009 (edited) Sorry Danny, we can't afford you next year. Run out your contract and get back with us then. Edited June 9, 2009 by Echolalia

Guest Shoreline Report post Posted June 9, 2009 I'm just waiting for more info as to why he wants out. Saw this a little while ago and figured maybe they'd update with it soon.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted June 9, 2009 Me thinks he'll get moved in a few weeks on draft day weekend. Wonder what happened in Ottawa to make him want to jump ship after signing such a big contract extension? The wheels completely fell off the cart in the past 18 months. He's jumping off of a sinking ship.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted June 9, 2009 Looks like his current contract has 5 years left...Do we want a 33/34 year old Heatley? yes
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted June 9, 2009 Don't quite understand how that franchise suddenly went from climbing the ladder to consistent playoff appearances (especially in the later rounds) to utter mediocrity. In most sports when stuff like this happens though I am inclined to blame management.
xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted June 9, 2009 He'll come here and we'll play the Ottawa Senators in the Finals next year and they'll boo him every time he touches the puck.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted June 9, 2009 He'll come here and we'll play the Ottawa Senators in the Finals next year and they'll boo him every time he touches the puck. Ottawa isn't near the finals next year. Murray has pretty much locked up last year's team to extensions already. Only guys like Neil & Comrie aren't signed. $51 million already committed. Unless the Sens find 4 or 5 defencemen somewhere this summer, they're in trouble. Now with Heatley wanting out, that takes a bite out of their scoring....and they're already void of secondary scoring. What will be interesting to see is if Ottawa goes for immediate help or the future considerations route with this trade.
xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted June 9, 2009 Ottawa isn't near the finals next year. I was kidding about playing Ottawa in the Finals. I was likening it to the Hossa situation. Besides, Heatley has no clue how to play defense, so he's not welcome here.

In most sports when stuff like this happens though I am inclined to blame management. It's what happens when you commit tons of cap space to your big three forwards. We've seen this script before in Tampa. Kenny has done a fantastic job of minimizing the damage by getting guys to sign under their value and front-loading contracts and all that good stuff, which is why he's the best, and the Sens and Bolts are missing the playoffs. That's what I keep saying about the Pens. Crosby and Malkin will be eating up 18 mil in cap space next year. 5 mil more for Fleury, 5 mil more for Gonchar, 4.5 for Staal. That's 32.5 mil in just 5 players. THIS is why Hossa didn't want to sign in Pittsburgh. Could you imagine his 7.5 mil added to that?
LeftWinger 5,152 Report post Posted June 9, 2009 (edited) Ok, Heatly for Crysby straight up. Put Crysby where he belongs and Heatly turns Pit into a winner. (a winner that WE can respect as well.) Edited June 9, 2009 by LeftWinger
