The team doesn't need a total overhaul, but clearly Draper, Holmstrom and Maltby are just eating up space. Sammy can go too... but I don't think his talent can be replaced for the money. Unless we have a black ace to fill his spot. The majority of the people on this roster will be right back there, fighting for the cup again, once again they realize how much it sucks to lose. This is the reason why repeats don't happen. I'm a big proponent of keeping Hudler, but if the Finals are called the way they were called this year, then hes useless. He was good in the series against Columbus and Chicgao, but his size is a big problem against teams like Anaheim, and when the whistles get put away against Pittsburgh. Get rid of Hossa and Hudler, honestly I wouldnt mind Samuelsson coming back, at least he's physical and tries, he may be dumb as s*** but he gives the effort. If you consider turnovers and shots from the boards into dead center of the goalies chest then yes I guess he was one of the better players. Sammy plays terrible D and doesnt score enough to make up for his bad D. He needs to go. Perfect example is the game winner in Game 6. BuckeyeWingsfan80 209 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 I think we'll mostly agree that Hossa is gone. I think Sammy will walk as will Hudler. Kindl, Kopecky and perhaps Downey will be resigned. McCarty will likely be let go (I think he's in his last year) as will Conklin. I just would not be shocked to see a trade of a d-man, either Stuart or Rafalski And I think a lot of his is predicated on getting LIlja back healthy. He was missed all playoffs long IMO. Guest blueadams Report post Posted June 13, 2009 rafalski's really lost a step defensively and nick isnt the superhuman he once was that could cover for an aging larry murphy... if we could orchestrate a trade of rafalski and someone like quincey last year (good player, no long-term role here) for a younger, bigger, faster, harder-hitting #2 defensemen i'd be very, very happy.
