Holmstrom

I see a lot of people thinking we should let him go. Yes, he played the worst hockey of his career in these past few series but does your feelings change if we learn he played through injury? His effort was there (how many times did he dive at the puck to knock it away from a pen player?) but everything else was gone.

edit: to make it clear I'm reserving judgment on holmstrom until I hear the injury report. If he was hurt with multiple injuries (99 percent sure he was) I say he should stay and people should give him a break.

He wasn't good, but it's not like he was getting tons of chances. Stuart, Kronwall, Lidstrom and Rafalski looked like they couldn't hit a barn let alone the net in a lot of these games.

He only had to dive because the other team had just taken it away from him. I felt bad for whoever was on Holmstroms line as they basically had to play a two man game in the offensive zone. Any pass to Holmstrom was just as good as a turnover. The big thing is he was nowhere near an effective presence in front of the net. If he cant do that then he is no better than an AHL'er

Homer definitely struggled in the playoffs this year. However, he did still have some nice screens on some goals. I feel like he was never quite 100% after coming back from his latest surgery this season. Perhaps the time off will help for next year.

I watched Wings/Carolina game 3 2002 recently

Holmstrom was a BEAST then, not only near the net, but in every aspect of the game, fast, strong, great chemistry with Stevie and Shanny...

He's washed up now. Let him go. He had a great career.

I am curious as to the injury report. My guesses...

Homer- probably a reinjury of his groin from last season.

Datsyuk- broken foot.

Lidstrom- torn scrotum, if the Globe and Mail are to be believed.

Draper- ankle? Guess off his movements.

Lids also had the shoulder thing that's been bothering him all season. I think he's getting surgery on it in the off-season.

I think Hossa probably have had some issues with something.

Dats was about the flattest I've seen him out there tonight. It looks like they were able to put Humpty-Dumpty back together again for Game 5, but whatever they did seemed to lose its effectiveness.

Cortisone can do wonders, but only in the short term. Doing it repeatedly screws up the injury permanently, so it was a case of patch things up for a single run, or let him heal for a career.

Despite the outcome, I'm glad they decided on answer B.
