You mean this guy?

Reflective_Traffic_Cone.jpg

no he means Derian Hatcher, who before the lock out was one of the most intimidating and physical defensemen in the league... a true stay at home D they don't really make them anymore like Hatch, maybe that was before you started to watch hockey though

great career for a great player, too bad it never worked out in Detroit

I remember him playing with the Stars, actually he was involved in the first NHL game I ever watched, Stars/Wings. Him and Matvichuck were the dirtiest bastards out there. I remember how scary he was, and the big hits he used to lay. I also remember that he came to Detroit, got hurt, and has been a pylon ever since. Also, he was not designed for the New NHL.

Geeze, lighten up people. I remember all sorts of photoshops of cones wearing Wings jerseys when he played here.

I just don't like to see quality players get disrespected because of the tail end of their career, it happens way too often... he's retired, he had a great career

haha he retired because after sitting on his 3 million dollar contract he had no contract left. Instead of being a man and retiring lats year so the flyers could have cap help he sits on his contract. The Last pic of him ever playing.

Kind of reminds me of some of the remarks directed towards Cheli on this forum lately. How would you have liked to have had a 30 year old Cheli on this team during the just completed SCF?

I would loved to... but here's the difference in the 2, in my opinion anyways... Chelios is still playing and is a liability, when he does call it quits I'll be sure to wish him a happy life and all in all, he had an amazing career, but he's still playing so it's not unfair to assess his game as you see fit.... Hatcher however is done playing, and he too had a great career minus a couple years.

I wholeheartedly agree that Cheli is done as a player (and have no problem with it). But some of the personal attacks and just rude treatment is shameful. The guy is definite HOF, and in my opinion is he best player ever produced in the U.S. He deserves better.

Yeah, Chelios deserves a lot better. People just have to insult some players, they can't just say "well, we don't need him as much as we did before now."

As for Hatcher, he would have been huge for us had he not gotten injured. I was really excited to get him on the team but then it turned out to be a bust. Oh, the What ifs...? of sports.

I just watched the finals from the 1996 World Cup not too long ago. He was awesome in that and helped the US to maybe its biggest international win since 1980. Obviously a tremendous force at the back end of the great Stars teams of the 90s and into this decade.

Shame that he didn't work out for us, but it happens.

PS. His curly mullet thing from the 90s is easily on the "best hockey hair ever" short list.

I remember how excited I was thinking of Hatcher and Fischer on a defensive line together -- two 6'5 guys, one actually skilled and the other a dirty SoB. Sweet!

Unfortunate it never worked out.
