Steve Y - Hall of fame

But one final one, the ultimate in many athletes' opinion, likely will come next week. Yzerman is considered a shoo-in when the Hockey Hall of Fame announces its inductees at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Said defenseman Larry Murphy, a Hall of Famer and former teammate of Yzerman: "He's the real deal. I've played with players, in certain instances, the media builds them up bigger than they really are. But Steve, he lives up to the hype. This guy, he was the ultimate competitor."

 That pretty much says it all. I can think of no one that deserves it more.

Yzerman... Hull... Luc... whos' gonna be the fourth player this year?

The top two possibilities for the four spots IMHO, by position and in order of how much I think they deserve it:

Center: Steve Yzerman, Bobby Smith

Left Wing: Luc Robitaille, Vic Hadfield

Right Wing: Brett Hull, Pavel Bure

Defense: Mark Howe, Doug Wilson

Goaltender: Ed Belfour, Tom Barrasso

If I had to pick four guys from that group to go into the HHOF, it's Yzerman, Hull, Robitaille, and Belfour.

I'd say Yzerman, Hull, Robitaille and Bure.

Belfour may be passed over because of his office problems, just like Dino. Guess we'll find out Tuesday. Just curious as to why Scott Stevens' name is there. He was inducted in '07.

Because I made a mistake. Replace him with Doug Wilson on the list.

Apparently there's some guy called Brian Leetch who's up for consideration. I don't know anything about him, personally. I'm sure he doesn't deserve to be in more than any of the people named above.

I'd say that Yzerman, Hull, Leetch and Robitaille will get in.

Leetch over Belfour, Barrasso, Howe, Wilson? I don't think so.

Pts: 1028

Is there really any doubt?

He got his number retired as a red wing. Some consider that as much harder to get into than the HOF.

Some? I'd say that is an unquestionable fact.

35 Hall of Famers have played for Detroit (soon to be 38) - 13 (14) of whom played in Detroit most of their careers - and only 6 up in the rafters.

Belfour: 2 Vezinas, 1 Calder, 1 Stanley Cup, 484 Wins (behind only Roy and Brodeur), 2 First All-Star team appearances, 6 All-Star Game appearances (including once injured)

Leetch vs. Belfour is no contest. Belfour wins. Comparable numbers when it's much harder to win awards (such as All-Star game appearances) as a goaltender than it is as a defenseman.

Leetch is one of the top defensemen of his era. Belfour is one of the greatest goaltenders of All-Time.

I didn't want to go that far. If I had those numbers then I probably would've just said it.

I think that applies to both of them -- both played during an unusually deep time in their position.

Belfour is owned by Hasek, Roy and later Brodeur while Leetch was playing with Bourque, Chelios, Coffey, MacInnis and later Lidstrom.

Both have two awards for best at their positions, but Leetch has a Conn Smythe, though Belfour has some great post-seasons under his belt also.

I think Leetch will get in first simply because of that 94 Rangers team and a lack of indiscretions.
