What The Wings Should Do

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

The Red Wings are full of players who can do everything except protect themselves. Last year when the Wings won the cup they had Downey and Drake. Seeing as Drake retired and they will never give Downey a chance because he doesn't score goals, they need someone who can stick up for the rest of the players. They should trade the rights to Marian Hossa for Kevin Wesgarth (LA/Manchester). They could easily pay Westgarth the league minimum or pretty close to it, plus he's only 25 so that doesn't mean he can't improve the rest of his skills. Just about the only team that poses a serious threat to the Wings is the Ducks because of their physical play which seems to be their kryptonite (except for helm). Just watch some of these fights.

I think we trade to rights to LA for a first round draft pick if he signs with them. LA won't get that much better and in the long run we would have maybe a top 10 pick next year

Nobody in their right mind would trade their first round pick for the rights to negotiate with a player.

I think we should nix Hossa and go after Mike Cammalleri. I think he might take a long term deal with a good average cap hit more so than Hossa would... He's a touch younger and has much of the offensive production and his "D" isn't all that bad... He could be a nice option.

Why would anyone trade such a high pick for the rights to Hossa...which only equates to about 36 hours of negotiations before everyone else can chime in. Unless of course "they" make a conditional offer which changes on July 1st if he doesn't sign. I don't see the wings getting more than a 3rd, a 2nd would be stretching.

You'd need more then that for Hossa's rights.

why? this time tomorrow, we'll get nothing for his rights and the negotiating teams only has 12 hours to pull the trigger on exclusivity... sorry to break it to you, but his "rights" value is significantly worth less by the minute...

I'd take this deal.

Time to let Hossa go and grab a smashmouth player like Eager. That guy was explosive in the playoffs and if we had him on our fourth line, we would have dominated the finals.

I love Eager, but IIRC correctly they were giving him 10 minute misconducts like they were going out of style in the playoffs this year. There seems to be an unwritten rule in the NHL playoffs: if you are physically weak and not noted as a player who is likely to engage in a fight, then you're allowed to push and shove and posture all macho-like after the whistle. If you are a guy who has a history of backing up his s***-talking? - that's 10 minutes. I don't know if the refs don't call Maltby et al for the 10s because they pity the guy after watching him pretend to be something everyone knows he's not or what.

I'm fairly confident that's why sherwood40 said, "if he signs with them".

If a deal is in place to make Hossa a King its a fair deal.

I look at it like this (and a lot of teams don't afford you this luxury), over the last few years the Wings front office and Ken Holland on or around July 1st or Free Agent Season if you please, have brought in Hasek, Robitaille, Hull, Rafalski (minutes after Schneider bolted), Hossa, all of whom have played worth the money for the most part or won a championship (and if you use Hossa as an example as one who didn't work out because of the Final, lest we forget people also wanted Datsyuk GONE after a couple sub par playoffs).

Relax, Kenny and Stevie Wonder know what they're doing. The owner knows what's what. They'll do what's right by the Wings come this July 1st. They have a track record of winning the Stanley Cup of GMing.

trade his rights to wash. for fleishmann...

go after cammalleri....

keep hudler.....

get a young grinder that throws occasionally.....

hossa out.....sammy out....kopay out....cheli out...downey out...mac out...."official"

use the hossa $$$ to fill the need with goals and a tough grinder

start the revenge season!

and hossa can torment sid and nancy all year long.

thats my 2 cents.
