titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/07/re...land_on_at.html Somewhat implies that he will be on the roster next year. "Leino, Abdelkader and Helm are ready. We think Valteri Filppula, at age 25, can take a step forward. Jiri Hudler can take a step forward. We have a power forward we like in Franzen and two elite players in Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. That's the cap world. The cap world is not designed for you to have these guys and go get a Hossa. The salary cap is working: It's a level playing field."
Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 abby is ready. he played great in the time he was given in the playoffs. helm and leino, as well as ericsson were already guaranteed spots on the wings next season....and they will be alot more comfortable next post-season with an entire regular season under their belts to adjust more to the nhl speed and toughness. But realistically it cant be a long term thing. Its Chicagos turn to try and see what they can do with Toews Kane and Hossa (again this is a one year thing as they are sure to lose either Kane or Toews to free agency next year). With that said, im glad out young guys are ganna get the chance to place. Im excited to see how Helm steps up as a starter. The guy FLIES on he ice. I think he might be able to help ese the pain of losing Hossa. Im not saying hes ganna score 40 goals, but hes ganna playsome Two way hockey and putsome points up on the board. Same with Leino and Abby is a young Maltby. Likes to hit and can put some points up. Im sad that we lost our ALL STAR caliber player in Hossa, but its time to get back to what the wings are used to, role players that make a difference. Here we come! Zetts 236 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 That's interesting, a few weeks ago he specifically said Abdelkader would NOT be on the roster. I'm guessing that may have changed because of all of the players we've lost...
numberthirtynine 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 Ah Kenny you're so professional lol. The cap world works but we give out so many hometown discounts and it makes us the best team in the league. He's being modest but the man knows how to work the cap. We couldn't keep Hossa but meh, no big deal. I think Abs is coming up. Helm and Leino too. It's time. s*** or get off the pot. May as well bring them up now, they played well and the AHL can only give a player so much. They're all ready to get on a team of superstars and get experience. At this point, I can't think of many reasons why not.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 and abby is better than maltby, even a young maltby Abby shouldn't be compared to Maltby. Abby's game doesn't involve him being a wuss by severe conscious choice. If you had to pick a Red Wing, it's McCarty because Abby has some potential for the top-6 but will probably just play on the 3rd/4th line.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 just not 88 Not a fan of Chicago's version of whiny face?
Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 Huh? Do you mean Fedorov? Leino doesn't even have a quarter the skating ability as feds has... yes i mean federov. and there was an "if" in my statement. i'm aware he doesn't skate like federov, but not many do. i just see some of federov's qualities in leino when he's played, aside from the playoffs where he was not bad, but looked nervous and mildly overwhelmed. but that's what happens when you play 13 reg season games and get tossed in to the mix in the playoffs. and when you're a natural scorer playing shutdown on the 4th line. BlakKy 58 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 Abby should get another season of first line minutes again. Bring him up in the playoffs or near the end of the season again to replace the injured/tired Maltby/Draper.

Well I guess he's prepared to have 5 rookies on the roster (which is fine with me- this is the reality of the cap for the Wings right now, plus they can send some of them down to the AHL and replace them with veteran players they make a trade for). Here's what I think the roster will look like then: -->Leino signs a 2 year deal at $900,000 per year. -->Holland convinces Hudler to take $2,250,000 a year for 3 years (or less, he might only get him to accept a one year deal with the promise that Hudler will get more money once Lidstrom's and Holmstrom's salaries drop). -->Lebda is traded or, if Lilja is on LTIR all season Lebda takes his place on the roster. This scenario only leaves $138,132 in cap space. If he's happy switching Lilja for Lebda that cap space opens up to $738,132. I'd like to figure out some way of making it possible to get Hudler signed to the identical deal as Filppula, but that'd require dropping Lilja for Lebda and would leave virtually zero cap room for short-term injury replacements. Here's the roster we'd see under that scenario: Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Cleary Franzen-Filppula-Hudler Leino-Helm-Holmstrom Maltby-Draper-Abdelkader Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Lilja Meech Osgood Howard Edit: Ryan Oulahen is out of minor league options as well and his cap hit is only $522,500. That saves more than $200,000 compared to Abdelkader, and gives us a more capable penalty killer and shut-down guy. HudlerFanatic 4 Report post Posted July 3, 2009 Well....if what I just saw is right, according to capgeek...Abs is signed for the 09/10 season RFA in 10/11 for $850,000 w/ bonuses included in cap hit.... http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=15 Yesterday it was 19 signed w/ 4 open and now it's 20 w/ 3..... but I haven't seen any articles regarding it... But I'm happy about it! I like him, and I think it's time for him to have a roster sopt.
