dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 This was pretty expected, and imo the best decision for him. He's got a good chance of either getting the starting job, or atleast splitting starts with Toskala. Toronto looks like they could have an interesting team as well, they might be on the way up. shoe 165 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Right on we should be able to see what he is all about in the usual home n home pre season games with the Leafs in October. That leaf team sure looks different fast! Looks like Gerber, is up for grabs now. Maybe even Poggie if anyone would want him?

I could be wrong, but I doubt we're playing the home-and-home preseason series against the leafs this year since we start the season early in Sweden.
Peleshob 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Gerber, Joseph and Kolzig are all UFA's. If I remember correct they qualified Pogge, so now they'll just need an AHL back-up. Probably someone already in the system?
Guest mindfly Report post Posted July 7, 2009 This isn't SEL.. i wonder how gustavsson will react when a 6'4 220 guy stands in front of him and players generally crashing the net which never happens in SEL... For all we know he might as well be another "Stefan Liv".. euro goalie who can't attapt to the north american style.

Russians (half-euros) and Czechs aren't that bad either.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 For all we know he might as well be another "Stefan Liv".. euro goalie who can't attapt to the north american style. I felt like Liv's bigger problem is that he relies way too much on his athleticism to make saves, essentially making saves more difficult than they should be because he needs the thrill of making highlight reel saves. ltgator333 3 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 U mean Swedish goalie, right? Finnish goalies have done pretty well here IMO. Russians (half-euros) and Czechs aren't that bad either. I think he was referring to the ice size in europe vs. north america, which is something that most all goalies not from north america have to get used to. There is a respectable contingent of Finnish goalies in the NHL though. I felt like Liv's bigger problem is that he relies way too much on his athleticism to make saves, essentially making saves more difficult than they should be because he needs the thrill of making highlight reel saves. I'd wondered that about him myself. I didn't realize Toronto had so many UFA goalies, AND it's a regular who's-who of has beens that I respect but need to go home. stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Liv's biggest problem is that he isn't very good. disagree. I think he has a ton of talent, just a bad attitude and like the OP said, he was too cocky to work on his positioning because of his athleticism...

anthonyn66 89 Report post Posted July 8, 2009 Kaberle + something + pick for Heatley? Why not? 1. Burke doesn't want him, he said in an interview, and said he doesn't tolerate players requesting trades. 2. Heatley will 'sit' on it. Toronto is a rival, and isn't that much better than Edmonton. MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted July 8, 2009 Heatley is not going to Toronto. The Leafs & Sens just do not trade together. Plus, Burke's not a fan of him.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted July 8, 2009 A highly anticipated prospect AND a Maple Leaf? His rookie cards will be pretty inflated going into this season. Schenn's rookie cards were similarly inflated, so I expect no less. (hey, there are so many Leaf fans out there the demand is always high for Leaf rookies)
Swayze 81 Report post Posted July 8, 2009 What's with TO = Toronto? Is it just the first two letters of the word TOronto? Just a nickname, pronounced seperately (T O, not like to ), same as saying the D or ATL.
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted September 16, 2009 From TSN : Jonas Gustavsson's bid to land a goaltending job with the Toronto Maple Leafs has been stalled by a heart problem coach Ron Wilson describes as a minor concern. Gustavsson experienced a racing heartbeat following fitness tests Saturday, took part in on-ice sessions Monday and, when he didn't appear at the NHL club's practice facility Tuesday, Wilson was asked about the Swede's absence. Doctors have performed an ablation, which requires an incision in the groin area, said Wilson. "They go in and touch a part of his heart that was misfiring," said Wilson. "It's a simple procedure that's actually fairly common with athletes. "Our doctor said he'll do 10 NHL players in a summer if they're ever shown this (problem). It's not a difficult procedure. We don't expect him to miss more than 48 hours. You don't want him to put his gear on until he's comfortable and there's no risk of infection (at the site of the incision)."
