Wonder how long he played through it. Amazing what hockey players play through.

That is because IMO there is no more coveted trophy in the world of sports than the Stanley Cup.

The World cup is old but doesn't really have the background/story of the Stanely cup.

Players interact with the cup, they all get a turn with it, they all drink out of it that night, it has a whole different meaning to hoist the cup, other than just winning.

The cup is its own history book, its own almanac if you will.

Winning the cup to some of these guys is family dreams, not just their own.

Hockey players don't get the credit for what they play through, excluding the NFL (in which guys play through a lot of crap that should not be played through) most other leagues guys barely play through sprains in their fingers let alone a destroyed nut or shoulder.

Coincidence both the NHL and NFL have very similar injury report criteria, both are a little lacking in the disclosure of injuries to the public so very rarely do you really know what is ailing a player. Love the Lower Body injury that turns into a concussion!

But Hockey players and most football positions players endure a lot of injuries and pain to get to the promise land, and will try over and over again.

I really think the NHL also does better at celebrating its own history than other sports do.

Most other leagues the trophy is the MVP, not the Hart Memorial Trophy awarded the the most valuable player. ETC...

That is one main reason I want the Campbell and Wales back, why is that so different than Eastern and Western, at least then you aren't ham strung by geography or even worse it looks like you don't get geography.

Anyway sorry for the thread jacking, not my intention!

To be fair, anyone on the Wings would gladly take that injury if it meant winning game 7.

I'm sure Talbot is perfectly happy with how this postseason turned out, injury or not.

Damn right. I would give up Hudler or even Franzen or Cleary until December if it meant a Cup right now. Just as I'm sure Brent Gilchrist has no regrets missing the majority of 2 seasons because of playing on that injured groin to win the Cup in 98.

I'm with you on all of that. I'm really with you on the conference thing. It had tradition and history tied to it. The names of the conferences is not gonna draw people in. If people liked the sport they would learn the names of the divition/conferences later.

Wonder how Pens fans will feel when opposoing players deliberately go after his shoulder next year. Kind of comes full circle with the slash to Datsyuk's foot.

Oooh. Nice. Never thought of that.

And they'll have to play Philly... Oh this is good. This is very good. Talbot's shoulder? Meet Pronger's skate. Or stick. Or gap between his teeth that will enclose your shoulder and then snap it in half.

And... This fantasy isn't even over. Go ahead and skate back to the bench so that Lappy will finish one of his patented high checks on you.

Now that I've posted all this, I bet I've inspired some on this board so that this fantasy still isn't even over. Anyone want to continue it for me?

I met him probably close to two years ago now. I have met a fair amount of players in my life, but he was one of the nicest players I have met. He just seems like one of those good guys in the league. It's just unfortunate for us that he played well for the Pens against the Wings.

Some of the biggest assholes on the ice, are typically the nicest in person. Pronger, Parros, and Lappy were more then nice to me. And I typically would wear some Red Wing paraphernalia when meeting them.

No way Talbot plays the whole year injury free. . . Philly will bang up Pitt and one casualty will be Talbot. Add in the fact that everyone plays the Cup Champs tougher in the reg season and I see a tired, beat up Pens team come April lucky to survive Round 1 and out after Round 2. Not sour grapes, I just don't think they are that good, mediocre D and one-dimensional. Then let's hear alol the talk about "oh, the injuries cost us." Didn't hear any Wings talking that it was injuries that cost us.
