Next Seasons start in Sweden

Any thoughts about impending FA's thoughts about this.

Do you think the travel scares some, entices others?

Do you think it could have any influence in the FA signing?

The reason I say this is not only did Detroit have the longest possible season, they will have the shortest possible off-season. If you're an UFA you have to think that this will spell trouble for the upcoming season, and you don't want to mortgage you "One Shot" on a tired team.

I know $$ are more of an impact due to cap and other things, but do any of you see this as being a possible factor?

Any Thoughts?

Edit: Damn My Spelling!!!!

The Wings have a lot of Swedes on their team. Therefore, the trip there will mean more to them because they have more of an emotional attachment and salience to the trip, which inspires their play, which can be contagious to the others not from Sweden or Europe in general.

I could see a possible Sweden hangover but that's probably like the common cold in comparison to all the other things they'll have to deal with next season.

But why wouldn't you come back with a little bit of a hangover? I'd question your manhood if you didn't. I mean, come on. Those two voluptuous brunettes on Avenyn street really know how to work it and then cook up some rice porridge the morning after.

THIS IS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT!!!

Any free agents that allow two-five extra weeks rest dissuade them from a team that has made it to the finals twice in a row, as well as won the Cup four times since 97', and is still a strong Cup contender don't deserve to play for the Wings.

Well they used NHL in UK correct?

I would have to assume it would be NHL, if it were exhibition maybe not, but because it is regular season I would think they have to use NHL size.

I guess my thoughts were aimed more towards the one year and done type of guys anyway. A guy that maybe contemplating calling it quits and wants another run at the cup before hanging them up. A Sundin type, who knows maybe Tkachuk type of guy (not that either of those two were ever coming any where near Detroit just examples of guys who could be on the verge of calling it a career).

So I should have written that.

With damn near half the team being Swedish, they'll just have to drive to the rink for the games in Sweden! No long travel there!

In all seriousness, I can only imagine that FAs sign wherever they think they will get ice time, a decent paycheck, and quite possibly win the Cup. Travel probably only comes up to the older players with families and tired bones.

Well the majority of teams over here have NHL sized rinks anyway...

I think a lot of you are making the trip to sweden into a much bigger deal than it really is. I think it will be nothing but a positive thing for the team. Something that could possibly get the team off to a flying start, kinda like the Winter Classic seemed to make the Wings turn off the cruise-control for a while.

I think they'll get some extra days off, so the extra travel shouldn't be an issue.

For a free agent I can't see how it could possibly have any weight, atleast not in a negative way.

btw, the rink will be NHL sized.

Ive just had a thought...if the game is playing in Sweden, does that mean the game is going to be played on an NHL sized rink or is it going to be a euro sized one?
NHL-size of course. There's no other hockey being played at the Globe.

The Ducks went 6-11 to start the defense of the Cup, cup hangover or starting in UK?

Edit: that includes the 1-1 in UK.

If the trip to Sweden didn't keep Sammy here, I don't think it will keep others away.

From what I understand, our season starts earlier, but our training camp and pre-season are shorter. This is just what I've heard. If anyone can confirm or refute, please chip in.
