Don't know if this is true or not, I usually doubt most of what is in the Toronto Sun when it pertains to hockey but they are saying:

Steve Yzerman doesn't like to talk much about his future ambitions but he had hoped that if the Chicago Blackhawks were going to change general managers, he would be strongly considered.

Here is the link. Not sure if this is true or not, Stevie has earned the right and shown that he has the credentials (in my opinion) but it made me a little sick to my stomach.

Whatever. Yzerman is not very important for the Wings anymore.

Yzerman is the wings and what every redwing should strive to be, on and off the ice. The Red Wings pride themselves as being a classy organization. You don't get any classier than Stevie Y.

He is also Hollands Heir

One more thing. This statement is the only thing in the whole article mentioning this. The rest of the article is a potpourri of other ramblings. No sources, references, etc. Plus, Illitch has commented since Holland, Nill, and Yzerman are all under contract, don't think about asking to talk to them.

I wouldn't blame him in the least if he wanted a change of scenery or a new challenge to work with. If he waits to be the Wings primary GM, it might be a bit of a wait, and he will most likely be inheriting a strong-built and secure team planning on making a Cup run ala Wings from early 1990s-today. What if he wants to build a team from the ground up? What if he wants to do something now, and not let valuable years pass him by? He doesn't owe the Wings organization anything, no matter how much of a keystone he was in building the franchise to what it is today. Regardless, he will always be my biggest idol.

Mike Milbury made a good point on CBC last season about Yzerman and him taking over as GM somewhere, I forget where, and he said he had talked to Steve about it and he said with his girls all in school he would not want to uproot them at this point of their lives. It seems like a good point and I think it's the same right now, even with Chicago being so close. Also I think everyone in the NHL knew that Stan Bowman was next in line in Chicago with Scotty there.

As far as all of these Yzerman to where ever rumors, I will believe it when it comes out of the mouth of the MAN himself.

Until then, unsubstantiated rumors!

This shouldn't come as a surprise, He wants a GM job and were sure as heck aren't going to be parting ways with Holland anytime in the near future.

Sorry, but you deserve this..

If Stevie goes or even pursues other jobs I definitely could understand. The coaching/managing business is another story from being a player when it comes to team loyalty, and it's usually rather short-lived on both sides, given "performance" is far more ambiguous with 29 teams failing to win the cup every season.

Stevie will always ALWAYS be Red Wing #1. And my hopes is he takes the GM seat after Holland is gone.

I have been coming to LGW for a long time (way longer then I have been a member here). So I have seen some pretty bad posts....but this one might take the cake.

 I agree with this 100%. I hope he takes over after Kenny is gone. However, even if he did become the GM of the Hawks... We all know his heart really would always be with Detroit. Steve will always be a Red Wing and will always be my #1 roll model for hockey and life in general. No matter what he decides to do.

I couldn't handle Stevie going to another team even as a GM. It would just break my heart if I knew he had something to do with another teams then the Wings. :flamingmad:

P.S. I hope a mod bans that guy for 30 days just for talking dumb.

Yzerman is a smart man, that's why its unfathomable that he'd really want to go to Chicago. This is a bogus rumor just to get 'clicks'. Absolutely absurd. Why? Because first of all, everyone knows Scotty Bowman's son (Stan) was a sure lock for the position. Second, Yzerman is on record stating he has no interest uprooting his family. As long as Yzerman has been in Detroit, he's always a man that says what he means and means what he says.

This 'rumor' has bulls*** written all over it.

I'd much much much rather have Yzerman leave to work for another team than Nill. I'm most worried we could lose Nill when his contract is up. That would be a MASSIVE blow to the organization.

I think people here are forgetting that Yzerman is a Hall of Fame player, not a HoF manager. He's done a good job here so far, and we'll see at the 2010 olympics how good he does when he's head honcho (hopefully he brings us a gold). Nill's been outstanding and is a huge part of the Wings' success. We can't afford to lose him.
