Mike Grier's agent says he's 'interested' in Red Wings

Grier is a good bet for a one-year deal. After that we have a bit more cap space opening up, and we will be losing Maltby. If Grier can prove in his one year that he can take over what Malts used to bring before he got older, then we keep him. This is assuming that we can sign Grier for a reasonably cheap price. If he's not in our range, all of this is pure speculation.

What I like about Grier is that he and Malts both really bring it in the playoffs. The 2 together putting it on the line would be killer, even if they're past their primes. Grier playing for a Cup and Malts on his last year, probably headed for retirement, would be highly motivated.

Wow. Wouldn't it be great if LGW had a place where we could discuss politics?

Please keep the discussion On topic. That topic is Mike Grier, as evidenced by the topic title.

:hehe:

I forgot to add my 2 cents on Grier, didn't I?

I'd take him at a salary of 1 mil or less. He does alot of good things and he's a big body that doesn't get pushed around. I think it's laughable to believe he'll fight anybody. But his size would absolutely help an already undersized team. PK work is very good to boot.

IMO, he'd be better than Maltby and frankly, Malts can sit in the presser for all I care anymore.

IM not really sold on Mike Grier and certainly not for more than $1m. He had a cap hit of $1.775 last year so I find it hard to believe he'd take that kind of a cut to come to the wings. I think there are better options that make more financial sense. Either someone cheaper who can bring similar qualities or someone more expensive who brings that much more. I dont think Grier is the best bang for your buck out there.

People. Keep the political talk (ie heathecare reform, taxes, et al) in the Political Discussion forum. That's what that section of LGW is for.

This section is for discussion of hockey. This thread, in particular, is (supposed to be) about the possibility of Mike Grier joining the Wings.

So let's keep the discussion on topic. Please.

Thanks.

I guess that depends on your definition. Certainly Big Rig is big and physical. Lilja's big but not so physical. Then there is (was) Kopy who was big and somewhat physical.

It's not only that Grier is big and physical. He is gritty and give 100%. You could say the same about Cleary. Now I'm not saying the Grier is as good as Cleary, but they play the same style and that's why I like him.

And I don't know, I heard about these guys Kronwall and Stuart who played a tad physical each year.

I would take him for the right salary on a one year deal, which is probably what the Wings are offering. I don't want Jay Williams back but we'll see what happens there. Wings will get a couple guys signed in the next couple weeks I'm guessing.
