What that man did in college sports, where you are guaranteed to have a player for no more than 4 years, to have had the dynasty he built and the championship run spanning over 2 decades (10 in 12 years from '64 to '75), that will never be done again. That being said, Scotty did something no other coach has ever done: he has won championships with 3 different teams (MTL, PIT, and DET), and he won multiple championships with each team. That puts him ahead of Lombardi (5 championships), Bryant (6 championships), Shula (2 championships), tied with Auerbach (9 championships), and one behind Phil Jackson, who won his 10th this year. I still say he's better coach than Phil, who rode his superstars to glory, unlike Scotty who had a system that he pounded into the heads of his star players and got more out of his role players than anyone else could. The Lords have won 30 consecutive NCAA Division III championships (record in all of sports), the first having been in 1980, while the Ladies have won 23 (nonconsecutive) titles. He has coached several Olympic Trial qualifiers, Division I All-Americans, and been voted NCAA Division III Coach-of-the-year twelve times. He has also produced more post-graduate scholars than any other coach in any division, and places high importance on students' academic performance as well as athletic success. Guest ZetterbergFourty Report post Posted July 30, 2009 He is undoubtably the best hockey coach of all-time. As far as this list goes, he def. needs to be bumped up about 4 spaces into the top 3. He has won 9 championships as a coach with 3 different teams. The Canadiens (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979), The Penguins (1992) and The Red Wings (1997, 1998, and 2002). Manoir 70 Report post Posted July 31, 2009 What has always hurt Bowman is his stint in Buffalo. Some people are of the belief that Bowman was lucky to be coach of very talented teams and the one place where he coached that was not a powerhouse he couldn't lead them to success. Notice that you have to go all the way down to #37 to find Toe Blake, the next hockey coach they chose to include. And not a single college hockey coach? What a joke. Unless you are younger than 10, lived a VERY sheltered life, Or are a true hockey fan and don't realize that there are other sports out there. Those would be the only exceptions that I can think of. I must fall under the "very sheltered/true hockey fan" then, because I'm almost 30. I've never paid any attention to college sports at all though, so that's likely why.
