Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burrows could be facing charges stemming from an on-ice incident in a Montreal summer hockey league game.

According to a report on RDS.ca, an investigation is underway in response to a complaint filed on July 21 that states Burrows violently struck the face of a goaltender with his stick during a game at the Excellent Ice Arena in Kirkland, Que.

The report said the family of the goaltender, 19-year old Koray Celik, would not comment about the incident on the advice of lawyers.

"Police went to the arena, but there are no charges right now," Burrows' agent Paul Corbeil told The Globe and Mail. "[Police arrived] because some people called the police. They spoke with Alex but nothing more than that."

The summer league, also known as the PHL (Pond Hockey League), is described by Corbeil as a summertime circuit for professional, minor pro and college players.

Canucks assistant GM Laurence Gilman told The Globe that the team was "gathering all the facts" but would make no further comment.

Burrows signed a four-year contract extension with the Canucks in March, which will pay him $2 million per season. The 27-year-old set new career highs with 28 goals, 51 points and 150 penalty minutes in his 2008-09 campaign.

I like Burrows, like how he plays... But violently swinging the stick at a 19 year old's head in a SUMMER LEAGUE game, is pretty brutal.

Wasn't he also the one who was mouthing off at a recently married Blues player during the playoffs? I forget who it was, but he was saying some pretty obscene things. Something among the lines of, "How's the wife? Still talking about me? Tell her I say hi. Good luck with your kids". Seemed like he crossed the line to me. Then again, I'm not 100% certain it was Burrows.

That was Kesler and Mitchell, talking to Backes.

Plus, that was funny. :P Come on, there's a lot of trash talk we don't hear. I'm sure Malts has commented on someone's wife at some point.

I can't believe that Burrows signed for $2 million. I would take Burrows over Hudler in an instant and Burrows agreed to sign for 2/3 the price while putting up similar numbers and contributing more outside of pure point production. Players like David Backes, Burrows and Milan Lucic are absolute gold.... stick-to-the-face or not.

#14 is Burrows. He was chimin in there too. I wish the on ice mics could pick more of this stuff up. I wonder what Malts and Homer say to get everyone so pissed.

Yeah it was "give your balls a tug you f***in *****" Anyone who thinks this is crossing the line hasn't playued a competitive game of hockey in their life I don't think. I've heard much worse then this.

He's a dirty little rat. I ******* hate Burrows, but that trash talk was and is hilarious.

I hate his guts too but I tihnk I would love him here in the D. Whats not to like, he's a 30 goal scorer, plays physical and pisses alot of opponents off in the process

I'd love a player like him, but not Burrows. He's like a more skilled, tough, left handed version of Malts, who drops the mits a bit more. Although, he'd grow on me for sure, and it wouldnt be like Ott, to the point where I'd go make sandwiches while he's on the ice because I hate him so much. (Had to throw Ott in there if we're talking about dirty rats)

For that price though he's a steal. Just for his goal scoring and some potential to score more. Add in that he has a physical side, can draw penalties and will fight(sometimes) is just a bonus. For that price I would love him. We can agree on Ott though thats for sure

my god I would ******* love Ott in Detroit... he is going to be the next level of an agitator bank on it... he is such a valuable player and has put on a lot of muscle since he first entered the league
