For the people asking for grit and the others asking for 15 goals I think Bertuzzi can provide both.

total agreement from me brother. i really like him on this teams fourth line. still would like grier along with him though. grier-draps-bert

well i figure that neither guy can get over a million so it is very possible to sign them both and still have 100k left over. not to mention the money you save if Lilja goes on LTIR or if meech/lebda gets traded.

Yes, let's make the 3rd line more defensive and TOUGHER.

Im in total agreement with you and your sig...

Sidenote: Is anyone else thanking god Zetterberg and Franzen werent free agents a year after Samuelsson and Hudler? IMO if we had to lose anyone from our core, Sammy and Huddles were the two ideal peaces of this puzzle to lose. The Wings lucked out.

Tsk, Tsk, Tsk ad yu guys ***** about ME bringing up Hudler in every thread! Sheesh! He's GONE! Hopefully for a LONG, LONG time!

With Eaves being a Solid 3rd or 4th line player, I think the Wings may look into a Solid 3rd and ocassional 2nd line player. If they can score one of those for $1.2M or so they will be happy. Whether or not Grier, Bertuzzi or Prospl would accept that is beyond me, but I think Holland really liked Bertuzzi when he was here and he would probably be his first choice to fill that role. I guess its whoever will accept what we have to offer. I would think Holland would like to keep some space open for GRR call ups this season (unlike last) so he will probably want to keep at least $900,000 open so he can bring up Abby sometime throughout the season.

Lets say tey go for Bertuzzi it pretty much makes your roster:

Cleary Zetterberg Datsyuk

Bertuzzi Filppula Franzen

Leino Helm Holmstrom

Maltby Draper Eaves

Oulahen (McGrath)

of course lie switching will happen all season, so don't grill me on my combos...

#1) First of all, can we please stop pairing hank and pav on the same line together! Babs was EXTREMELY hesitant to do so even with all the forward depth we had last season. Fat chance he does at all this season. Hank will be centering the first line. Pav will be centering the second line. End of story. Moving on.

#2) I like that Bertuzzi argument...he adds 15 goals and grit. He was also mentioned along with Jason Williams by Delevano the other day. Sounds like Williams fell through (probably because of the KHL), so we replaced him with Eaves. Bertuzzi might be next. Picture these lines...

Filppula-Zetterberg-Franzen

Eaves-Datsyuk-Cleary

Leino-Helm-Bertuzzi

Maltby-Draper-Holmstrom

If Im splitting up Z and Dats, Im putting Z with Franzen and Cleary. They were awesome in the playoffs.

Filppula-Datsyuk- Homer

Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary

Leino-Helm-Eaves

Maltby-Draper-Grier

To me, if we cant steal Zherdev for a reasonable cap hit, Im waiting until the deadline to add another top six forward. Sign Greir now so we can keep Abby in GR. Come playoff time we should replace Maltby with abby and make a move for a top six guy.

Playoff lines

Filppula-Datsyuk- top six deadline addition

Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary

Leino-Helm-Eaves

Abdelkader-Draper-Grier

Homer(13th forward, pp situations)

I like that 3rd line. Helm getting in on the forecheck with Bert crushing other players. Helm digging in the corners, Bert crashing the net and Leino there with the scoring touch. I could see that line being really effective

What exactly did he do last season that merits him being in the top 12? Based off of what I watched, he is a flat out liability. He's no longer the Tomas Holmstrom of old. I sure as heck dont want him on the ice during the playoffs.

Bert's a big softie.

Even if he was soft, the key word in that sentence is big. Nothing wrong with bringing in a big, canadian boy who can put up 45-50 points evn if he is soft. The fact that he actually isn't soft is just a plus

It's pretty easy to dump on Holmstrom after last season, being that he was HURT the whole time!

Maybe if you cared to watch the previous season or two and look at his ability to piss off a goaltender, tip goals, and pay the price nightly so the team could win, you would see that he deserves and has earned a spot on this roster in the top 6.

I sure as heck would want him on the ice during the playoffs!

Thats pretty much the story of Holmstrom lately though. Gets hurt and doesn't produce. He's getting old, with age come more injuries I expect him to be in the top 12 this year but not on the top line. Try 3 lines lower then the first.

Am I reading this right? Just kidding. I knew what you meant.

I really don't know about this whole playing hard thing. Everyone can play hard but everyone won't look like Helm. In saying that, how can you tell if someone is playing hard when in your mind playing hard is the way Darren Helm plays? How do you know Lidstrom is playing hard by that standard?

It's interesting that you bring that up. Lang was regularly critizised around here for being a lazy floater, but part of that came down to his style (well part). He was one of those guys who put himself in the right place to take a shot and tended to stick around that spot... kind of how Hull was in his years here. Now obviously Lang wasn't the kind of scorer Hull was, but that kind of player tends to look like they're phoning it in more often than a player like Helm does who looks like a pinball on skates. Lidstrom might seem like that too because his game is so positioning based that he rarely has to rush to get somewhere since he mapped the situation out in his head 30 seconds ago and already started skating towards the spot in question. Lidstrom treats hockey like a good chess player treats the game of chess.

Lighten up Francis! Just because it wasn't Grier you don't have to rain on everyones parade!

No, that's not what I mean, lol. I'm quite happy with the Eaves signing. I just mean people assuming Helm will score 20 goals, Flip will get 70 points and Holmstrom being the 13th forward... it's like bizarro land.

I take it back...maybe we should put Hank and Pav back together. I mean, Flip's more than solid enough to be a 2nd line center. Helm's more than solid enough to be a third line center. Draper's (still) more than solid enough to be a 4th line center. Plus, with these two together, Homer gives u great 1st line production...as opposed to being a mediocre third liner. The first two lines are great. The third lines gonna score some goals. The fourth lines gonna be great as well.

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom

Franzen-Filppula-Cleary

Eaves-Helm-Leino

Maltby-Draper-Bertuzzi

Lidstrom-Rafalski

Kronwall-Stuart

Ericsson-Lebda/Lilja

Osgood

Howard
