egroen 384 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 It's no secret Babcock loves having a right-handed shot for the right point on the power play. Jason Williams played there and Samuelsson played there, despite players available (but were left-handed shots). Look who the Red Wings have picked up: Jeremy Williams: Killer shot (not much else) - Right-handed shot Andy Delmore: Killer shot (not much else) - Right-handed shot Patrick Eaves: Well rounded and nice shot - Right-handed shot Jason Williams: Good shot, good at shootouts - Right-handed shot Do I sense a theme here? Possibly a bit of overkill?
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 The only one I think was crucial in their decision was Williams, as he has plenty of PP experience on the point. Eaves I think was signed more to stabilize our PK and bottom tier lines defensively for cheap, and hopefully get a little extra spark in his lost offensive game (although that's just extra). The other two are just depth signings and were coincidental righties, imo.

Possibly a bit of overkill? I wouldn't say overkill considering Delmore and Jeremy Williams will probably play in GR and we only have two other right handed shooters in Maltby and Rafalski. egroen 384 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 Outside of Eaves and Newbury, these guys are as soft as butter also.

Well hopefully Delmore, who is an experienced PP specialist, replaces Lebda on the roster and he and Meech compete for the spot as the 6th defenseman. mmamolo 287 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 I really sincerely think Delmore is going to be in GR for the logn haul. I would be surprised if he gets anytime on the big club unless there are some serious injuries and we need a veteran pressence. As it stands, in my mind, Delmore is pretty far down the depth chart. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 So is Bobby Lang. Let's bring him back too. While we're at it, maybe we can train Kyle Calder and Corey Cross to shoot right and bring them back too.
