Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 He'll have a good chance next year, but I'm thinking 2 years from now Ferraro will be on this team. And boy oh boy I cant wait A guy with 20 goal potential, 150+ hits a season potential, and 4-5 scraps a year against middleweights. Pretty sure he's a good leader too. AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 Well, he played only 44 games for the Whalers, but it set him up nicely for his 30 goal season in 85-86.

AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 I prefer to reserve comment on players when and if they actually make it to the NHL. The road to the Joe is littered with kids that are supposed to be the next big thing, and never make it there.

Ferraro is fighting in juniors about the same amount that Jason Williams was when he was in the O.. add to that an anti-fighting father in the sport and a couple years of the red wings preaching their thing on him... he'll be soft in no time, there's no denying his skill though i'm sure he'll still be a spark plug out there

Ah well, I'll enjoy it as long as he's in the W. At the very least, a player doesnt lose his ability to hit no matter what teams preach at him.

AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 (edited) I'm still fairly amazed that you didn't get that I was talking about RAY Ferraro. But when people run around creating threads on the first day they join, about players that have not even played a game for the team that drafted them, and asked "thoughts on his first season?" you're bound to get some smart ass comment. stevie12 5 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 I was watching the wings rookies on red wings t.v and I was actually impressed with Cayer's skating and size. I know it was from a brief clip but I'm hoping that this was a glimpse for what we will come. Ferraro will be another couple of years yet but He reminds me of a Darren Helm type player. He's basically a Helm with scoring. I really hope this kid makes the World Junior team this year. And whoever said he probably won't fight in the NHL, this kid is feisty. He fought Kyle Beach who I'm pretty sure oyu all know but I'll say anyways is a big kid and one of the better fighters in the dub.

newfy 695 Report post Posted August 7, 2009 I think pretty much everybody has their share of scraps in major junior. Actually not Williams. He's only had one fight his entire career including major junior. And it was against Arron Asham, horrible choice for your one and only scrap.

Ferraro is fiesty but I honestly think he will work completely on his scoring touch and will bring little toughness to the Wings' line up... i'm sure he'll finish his hits when he has a chance but i wouldn't expect him to fight on an semi regular basis... Ray Ferraro as his dad + going through the Wings organization will take the fight right out of him...literally as for Kyle Beach, there's a bust for ya... i think he'll turn out to be about as good as Brian Sutherby and if he manages 30 points in the show i'll be surprised...bad attitude and he's really not tough at all... Beach loses most his fights but he did manage a rare win by pummeling Ferraro at center ice

But if he's willing you can expect he'll get in fights. As a hopefully top 2 line player and a bit of a physical side he'll be targeted by other teams for sure. I just don't see him laying down and taking it like most wings do nowadays. He's a brightspot on teh wings future for sure I think in the grit department along with Abs. And Williams as listed as only having one fight ever on hockeyfights but maybe they missed some in Jr or something? Edited August 7, 2009 by newfy

Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 Anyone got the scoop on how he's doing so far this year? I checked hockeydb and it seems he's doing above average, but not tearing it up. Though he is playing with an inferior Red Deer Rebels team, so his stats won't be that good.

Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 Here's a nice report on Ferraro: The rich get richer... I’ve been following and analyzing the NHL draft for quite some time, and I think the Wings got the third best player in the draft. In the second round no less. Nothing is certain, but all the indicators are that Landon Ferraro is a better prospect than Matt Duchene or Evander Kane, as well as the other 30 or so guys that went after Victor Hedman and before he did. I have been a Habs fan, and live in Vancouver, so this is not a homer rant. As someone pointed out in the article above, Landon scored nearly 1/4 of his team’s goals last season, (although not the 32% figure he mentioned). The only other prospect in that range was Tavares, but he is nearly a full year older than Landon. So too is Matt Duchene, who only scored about 1/8 of his team’s goals. If you take the extra year from Duchene, he had 30 goals and 20 assists a year ago (at the age Ferraro is now), on a much stronger offensive team in the wide open OHL. Landon scored 37 goals 18 assists for a Red Deer team that averaged just over 2 goals per game offensively. Evander Kane managed 1/6 of his team’s goals last season, but the reason he ended up with the WHL powerhouse Vancouver Giants while Landon was with the cellar dwelling Red Deer Rebels is that Ferraro was taken much higher in the WHL Bantam Draft a couple of years back. The two both grew up in the Vancouver area minor hockey system, and Ferraro was always regarded as the better prospect. Like Landon’s family, I had a feeling he would end up in Detroit. I think his Dad managed his late “slip†to some extent to ensure that he landed in a solid, stable organization like Detroit rather than the train wreck franchises drafting at the top end of the first round. Ray was a mid round pick himself back in the day, and went on to play for nearly 20 years in the NHL. He had the reputation on and off the ice of being very “craftyâ€. Also, the player Landon most resembles in terms of his playing style and makeup is Henrik Zetterberg. He is very fast (won the skating competition at the Prospect’s Match), and as good defensively as he is offensively. He will fill out to be a similar size to Z, and shares a lot of the same personality traits.
