Can Datsyuk challenge Boucher?

For most career Lady Byng's?

I know a lot of people act like its a nothing award but Pavel is already in exclusive company, winning it four years in a row. Frank Boucher won it seven times in eight years and Gretzky won it five times.

Do you think Pavel can challenge Boucher?

Parise seems like the only realistic challenger for the next five years.

I still can not believe Lidstrom has never won the Byng -- but yes, I think Datsyuk can win another couple, it would be sweet if he won more than Boucher.

The Lady Byng used to be considered the Hart runner-up, and I believe it is still worth noting, as the ability to simply stay out of the penalty box and not put your team short-handed is underrated in value.

For some reason, I think he has won his last Selke. It seems that the majority of fans prefer Richards.. mainly because he scores much more short handed. Which seems to be a ridiculous reason to win the Selke.. Gretzky scored a lot of shot handed goals.. didn't make him a Selke winner.

To be fair to Richards-- he's definitely a talented defensive forward and deserves the praise he gets. And I'm not talking about his shorthanded goals.

I'm pretty confident that Datsyuk has more Selke in him. His defensive numbers last season weren't quite as impressive as they were the year before but that had a lot to do with how poor the team was playing as a defensive unit. This year there will be a much stronger push to play the way the 07-08 Wings did defensively, and that will only help Datsyuk's defensive numbers.

The award is not voted on by the fans.

Frank J. Selke Trophy

The Frank J. Selke Trophy is an annual award given to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game. The winner is selected in a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season.

Wrong. Sportsmanship is a must. The best way to win is the right way to win.

Sportsmanship isn't a must. Its cool and all that Dats wins the award but who cares its the byng not teh Selke or Hart.

I hope not. His Selkes and Stanley Cups are something to brag about, Byngs arent.

Man it's weird reading Selkes as in more than one. Who knew a skinny kid who some said had no aptitude for defense would work his ass off to put on some weight and dare you to hit him only to surprise you with a shoulder check of his own and also win two Selkes?

Really though  In 2002, I never would've imagined Datsyuk being a physical player and a defensive stud, all the while leading the Wings in scoring 3 years in a row.

Im aware of this but go to a site like hfboards or just read various team message boards and the popular belief is that Richards should have won the Selke this season and probably will next.

Of course, the writers know differently but most think Zetterberg should win it over Datsyuk on this site.

Hes led the team in scoring for five seasons.. more than likely would have been six without the lockout.

Fans don't determine who wins the Selke.
