Canadian_Yzerman_Fan 7 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 Part of this has to do with my fantasy draft, but I'm wondering how many games people expect Ozzie to start this season. I can't imagine Howard would be able to handle to workload that Conks did last year, but I also figure that Red Wing management doesn't want to burn Ozzie out during the regular season. Perhaps that implies call up chances for Larsson and McCollum (sp?) Agree? Disagree? Estimates? I'll say Osgood plays 60 games, Howard gets 10-14, and the remaining ones are split giving one or both of the other two a chance.
Wings_Toledo 233 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 I would say probably something more like in the 50-55 range for Ozzie, but I could be wrong.

digitaljohn88 4 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 I'm sure they want him to play 50-55 games. That's probably how many he would have played last year if he wasn't so off his game/injured.

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 Anyone else nervous about the goal tending situation this season? more worried about Howard than the overall situation - I think Ozzie will bounce back and have a stellar year... I think Ozzie sees about 50-55 as said before, and Howard will see the remaining 30 - I do NOT see call-ups unless someone is injured - Howard is used to playing 50+ a season, he can handle the workload as far as durability... it's his ability I'm worried about... Jaymz99 2 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 (edited) Anyone else nervous about the goal tending situation this season? Holland has said in a recent interview that if he doesn't work out by the trade deadline they would pickup another goalie to finish the season. Pearce is expected to play in Toledo. Larsson and McCollum are Grand Rapids bound for the year. I assume this decision would be to set up the Wings with a veteran goalie for the final run of the season. We'll be fine. wingslionstigers 12 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 For one it depends on how healthy he is. Two depends on how well the team plays. He is getting older if we are pretty secure in the standings im sure they would opt to rest him more. Three depends on how Howard plays. Hard to say really.. Although i think the only reason Howard is with the Wings is to give him his legit shot he deserves and at the same time get him out of Grand Rapids so we can get our other goalies some AHL time. If Howard doesn't work out and Osgood is unhealthy believe me we will see a move. Osgood not going nowhere though. Hes the best playoff goaltender in the league for his price. AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 For fantasy purposes, having had Ozzie as my #1 goalie for 2 years, draft someone also who is going to play almost every game. Cam Ward and Tim Thomas were my other goalies and saved my bacon when the Wings do their usual goalie roulette, playing one one night and the other on back to back games, stuff like that. It's a killer when your #1 plays only one game in a week.
TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 Hopefully he starts zero games. Hopefully Jimmy Howard busts out to be the second coming of Sawchuk.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 (edited) Anyone else nervous about the goal tending situation this season? Not really. While every year/team is different obviously Osgood along with rest of the team, generally speaking, turned it up a notch for when it counted the most, in the playoffs making as deep of a playoff run as you can without winning it all. I don't see why the Wings should have any trouble making the playoffs again, no need to worry too much about anything until then IMO. In terms of workload, I'm hoping around 50 or 55 like stated above assuming Osgood plays better next regular season. Enough time for rest IMO and it'll give Howard plenty of backup playing time to see if he folds or not in his first full NHL season, at least as a backup. Hopefully he starts zero games. Hopefully Jimmy Howard busts out to be the second coming of Sawchuk. Hush child. Edited September 3, 2009 by SouthernWingsFan
Guest mindfly Report post Posted September 3, 2009 Question is, if Osgood chokes this season what will wings do then? they dont have a solid backup in conklin and howard has no experience at all.
ltgator333 3 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 I agree with the 50-60 games played numbers. This is going to be a sink or swim year for both of Detroit's goalies, and the best thing that could happen is they both play solid. Osgood would be a risk, I wouldn't pick him #1 though. Pick someone who's more likely to play 70+ games, there will be a few. Osgood would be a good #2 pick I'm thinking. Maybe I'll play fantasy this year it's been a few years... Where's everyone playing?
Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 Anyone else nervous about the goal tending situation this season? Yeah, I mean we don't have enough enforcers so the goaltending will suck so bad.

Dimaline312000 51 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 I'll say 50+ Games. I think alot has to depend on how Jimmy does. Actually starting I'd have to say a good over 50 games but he may get more playing time if Howard isn't up to the task. I think Jimmy Howard will be up for it and will do well as Osgood's back-up but I'm sure Ozzie will play most of the games. One thing is for sure he can't go back to they way he was for most of the season being a slacker and not playing to his full potential. If he does that than it could cost us big time. Krayzie_Bone 58 Report post Posted September 3, 2009 (edited) lets not forget I belive Conks had more wins than ozzy and a better goals against last year. maybe im pessimistic but if Ozzie is the main guy for a full regular season I dont think it will be a good thing. Hopefully I am wrong. Edited September 3, 2009 by Krayzie_Bone
