newfy 695 Report post Posted September 6, 2009 Like someone above said, Bert does have a pretty mean backhander actually and has some nice goals because of it. He pulls it backhand quick and gets it over the tendys shoulder like its his job.... oh wait it is his job.

Seraph 240 Report post Posted September 6, 2009 (edited) Not by any means one of the greatest backhands, but a memorable one... Have you guys noticed, when he's on a breakaway, this is the move he ALWAYS tries. I think they're on to him. under_par_00 45 Report post Posted September 6, 2009 (edited) Goal number 3 Ah yes, I remember it now. Really not that great of a backhand, just great awareness by Pavel. Ya they shoud definitely be on to Cleary by now. He needs a new move. He tried that against the Pens in the finals and Fleury didn't bite. To be fair, its been his money move for a while, but he does need to do something different now and then, just to keep the goalies honest. I remember someone saying once that Kariya had a backhand slapshot - anyone got a video of it?
smity8000 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2009 Paul Kariya has a good backhand 2nd to Chris Brown on Rhianna
syntax 359 Report post Posted September 6, 2009 All have been mentioned, but Sundin, Modano and Damphousse have the best all-time backhands.
Hockeymom1960 5,107 Report post Posted September 6, 2009 New to your board, a true hawks fan. I respect Detroit and have followed hockey my whole life. Denis Savard comes to my mind with great a back hand. Welcome to the boards!!

He has a good move where he goes to the backhand during shootouts/breakaways, but really, I can't think of a time i've seen him fire one on a whim. St. Louis was another guy mentioned, he has a move where he uses it in the shootout, but i havent seen him take one top shelf in the second period.

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted September 7, 2009 My little sister can't remember her password, but she went on and on about Paul Kariya and how he keeps his stick straight for occasions where he needs a good back hand. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted September 7, 2009 Hank has perhaps the best backhand on the Wings. The Finnish Flash and Paul Kariya also come to mind.

BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted September 8, 2009 Sundin and Crosby are the two I've seen get most recognition for their backhand, plus numerous backhand beauties can back it up.

BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted September 8, 2009 So Sundin, Damphousse, Modano, Kariya, Selanne... You people realize there might be guys nowadays that can snipe 'em home backhand, not just the stars of the 90's.

Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted September 8, 2009 That one against Lundqvist is quite nice, my favorite of the two. Just the distance, the speed and direction he was skating, and just a beautiful sniping of the corner.
kidish 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2009 Don't know about historically in general, but in recent years: Sundin, Selanne, Kariya, and definitely Crosby. Gretzky had the best one though, in my mind.
