Ken Hitchcock wants to make the Wings "Bleed"

You don't know what the word "rebuilding" means, do you? See, in order to go through a rebuilding phase, you had to have phenomenal successes followed by phenomenal failures on your way to phenomenal successes again. Basically the valley of the "peaks and valleys" analogy.

I don't see how that applies here. We are still essentially the same team as last year. If we were truly in a "rebuilding" phase, we'd have about 3 players from last season and a bunch of call-ups and rookies. Since that's not what's going on here.....you're more than a little off-base.

I don't think you understand.

Detroit is used to having higher standards than other teams.

That is what makes the Wings so awesome.

detroit is in a rebulding year kind of, columbus is the same way. detroit will still beat the crap out of them so theres no worry at all about them

You always worry about every team in your division. The Central is going to be teh best division in the NHL this coming year, so dominating the Central will dominate the NHL.

And Columbus isn't rebuilding at all. If anything, this will probably be their best team ever as a franchise.

they still lost quite a few people even though they have 20 returning players

We retained the majority of our key players. "Rebuilding year" is the opposite of the term "Cup contending year." Earlier you said that Columbus and Detroit are in the same position. If you really think so, then I guess I can't help you. But being a mediocre team fresh off your first playoff experience ever even though you won no games and never held the lead is not the same as the Red Wings situation. Columbus's situation is to figure out a way to get back to the playoffs and actually win some games. The Detroit goal is to win the Cup and nothing less. That is not the same.

"I don't want to just stay in the (playoff) mix," Hitchcock told the Columbus Dispatch Wednesday. "I want to go and chase Detroit (atop the Central Division). I'm tired of watching Detroit in first place. I'd like to chase them."

"I mean, somewhere along the line, somebody's got to make them bleed, and it might as well be us."

Tonight the Wings need to keep their heads up. There will be plenty of young 'tough guys' that will be charing our players. It won't be pretty.

How do you know? The game hasn't even started yet.

Hard surface (ice) + sharp objects (skate blades) + blunt objects (sticks) + high speeds + rules that allow bodies traveling at high speeds with blunt and sharp objects to collide on a hard surface + young guys competing for final roster spots + the history of both teams competing = foregone conclusion.

The Wings need to keep their heads up. That's a given anytime one is on the ice. How many times have there been injuries or near misses because someone (regardless of team) didn't see it coming? The circumstances tonight make it even more crucial than usual.
