Rumor: Danny Heatley to Sharks

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

at 8:55 ESPN posted a story that sources confirmed this deal

Heatley to San Jose

Marleau to Los Angeles

Frolov and Stoll to Ottawa

2 min later they posted this update:

Both Sharks GM Doug Wilson and Senators GM Bryan Murray denied the three-way trade when reached by ESPN.com.

However, since this was posted on ESPN I imagine there is something to it...

Speculation is that the reason it's being denied is perhaps because Marleau and Heatley still need to waive their NTC's....

Edit: beaten by a minute

via ESPN,

The Ottawa Senators have reached an agreement to send Dany Heatley to the San Jose Sharks, NHL sources told ESPN’s John Buccigross.

The 28-year-old forward was part of a three-team deal that will send the Sharks’ Patrick Marleau to the Los Angeles Kings and the Kings’ Alexander Frolov and Jarret Stoll to the Senators.

Seems like a lot for LA to give up for Marleau.

Why would LA give up 2 good young players, one being a potential superstar, for a playoff choker?

Terrible trade for them if this happens.

I agree, I mean they wanted to add a scoring winger, not give up one.

They better get like two first rounders as well.

According to ESPN News, Heatley has been traded to the Sharks in a three way deal.

No other details given yet...

TSN or it didn't happen.

By the way-- this deal has been rumoured for months. And yet neither Murray nor Heatly mentioned the Sharks as an interested party... that tells me that the Sharks want the deal but haven't made an offer the Sens consider serious.

Well, Frolov is a UFA in 10 months, maybe the Kings already know that he isn't going to re-sign. Who knows.

That's a terrible deal for Los Angeles. Frolov for Marleau straight up is a questionable trade for the Kings (given that they're still stuck in rebuilding mode):

Marleau: Age 29, Last 4 seasons: 71pts/48pts/78pts/86pts

Frolov: Age 24, Last 4 seasons: 59pts/67pts/71pts/54pts

It's worth noting that if you compare Marleau to Frolov season by season in their respective careers Frolov has done much better on a worse team (I'm comparing one guy's 1st year to the other's 1st year and so on). Add to that that Marleau's heart and leadership is a big question mark and I just can't see why LA would trade their budding star for a guy who was worse at Frolov's age and is 5 years older. This trade would make more sense if the Kings were trying to make a playoff run but it certainly doesn't make sense for a team that's in perpetual rebuilding mode.

I guess it makes sense based on LA's history of jettisoning valuable assets for less than their worth and making retarded trades for old men.

But adding Stoll in there just makes it retarded.

That type of thinking seems to be common in LA's management and it's exactly why they've been "rebuilding" for decades. Pathetic. They're a revolving door for talent that hands gifts out to whoever trades with them.

I read a few posts from the start, and I get the impression these "sources" were some *******'s twitter. Now that the Dany Heatley thing has happened twice this summer, maybe they can clean out their twitter sources and start actually talking to the teams or use a more reputable "source".

Ottawa makes out like a bandit in this trade... sheds TONS of cap, gets rid of a malcontent and adds a very undervalued, underused face off gem in Stoll and an up and coming scorer in Frolov...

complete fleecing by Murray... why the hell would LA make this trade is my question?????
