Kidding aside, I hope that knee heals up real fast for the kid. It's been fun following his progress all year. Edited February 5, 2010 by ruarc'
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 He's playing with the big club in the playoffs. HV71 are leading Timrå two games to none in the opening round. Almqvist took a rough elbow to the head in the game, and went down. Not sure what his status is.

DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted April 4, 2010 Now before we all get carried away and think we have Lids heir apparent, the guy I have him similar to and drafted more or less the same is Atlanta's Tobias Enstrom. Same stature too, smallish playmking D with great hockey sense. If Adam can turn out as good or better than Tobias then Hakan has done it again. I think comparing him to Tobias Enstrom is getting carried away as it is. Enstrom is a premier player in the NHL, he's just stuck in a black-hole of a franchise that is Atlanta (yeah, they've been decent this year but his skills are often overlooked). Sure he seems to have great hockey sense and playmaking ability, which is comparable to Enstrom, but Enstrom has much more strength to his name and obviously has proven abilities at higher levels than the SEL. With that said, for our last pick of the draft he seems to have potential steal written all over him. Luckily for us, with the help of a personal trainer he could easily bulk up and we have no instant need for him so that will give him a nice amount of time to progress in the SEL. NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted April 8, 2010 Right now it is game 5 in the semifinal between HV71 and SAIK (HV lead 3 games to 1), and HV are up 3 to 0. Almquist has two assists so far.
11iscoming 1 Report post Posted April 8, 2010 HV 71 has won game 5 and the series 4-1. now they play Djurgarden in the finals. adam had it going in games 4 and 5 with 5 assists. in the SEL playoffs he has now 10 GP 1 G 7 A for 8 PTS and is +4.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted April 8, 2010 It's possible he could be another late round steal
Wings4Life19 150 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 you would think after all the undersized players the wings have drafted that have had some success in the nhl over the years, other teams would start to realize that skill can get you pretty far.
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted April 24, 2010 Well, HV71 just won the Swedish championship! In the 16 postseason games he played, Almquist had one goal and ten assists, and was used by the coach in all situations - 2nd ES pairing, 2nd PP formation, and also saw time on the penalty kill (usually with Janne Niinimaa - you'll remember him from '97). In the locker room after the match he was interviewed in the locker room, and he is tiny! That said, he looks like another late round steal. He has good sense, doesn't rush things etc.
Systemfel 33 Report post Posted April 24, 2010 Almqvist would be a damn first rounder this summer had he been born eight months later.

11iscoming 1 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) he has not exactly torn apart the league scoring wise, like he did in last years playoffs or in the juniors, but he has played in 43 games so far and has scored 16 points (all helpers) while playing on the second pair. most impressive may be the fact that he is leading the entire SEL in +/- with a +18 rating as an not even 20 year old. it may help that he is playing with the defending champs, but he also seems to be a big factor that they are as succesful as they are. Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 A2 has been really playing well the past couple months. He's been a factor in his team doing so well. He had 3 assists today alone. He's going to be a fantastic PP QB for us someday, if he fills out his 5'11"/6' frame and works on his defense some.
Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted February 26, 2011 the Wings have a good guy watching AA play as Fredrik Olausson is one of the assistant coaches. Adam now has a +20 rating so it looks like his defensive play could be improving.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted February 26, 2011 A2 leads the entire league in +/-. 4th in defenseman on his team in points. He has improved his defensive play, his offense is starting to come around even more, now all the kid needs to do is work on his skating and strength and he has a great chance of making the Wings in the next 5 years I have some high hopes for this kid. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 27, 2011 What are we projecting him to be though? 2nd pairing defenceman and on the top PP unit?
Mabuhay Red Wings 177 Report post Posted February 28, 2011 What are we projecting him to be though? 2nd pairing defenceman and on the top PP unit? Perhaps. If he makes it. Still a big if at this point.
Dave Anderson 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2011 What are we projecting him to be though? 2nd pairing defenceman and on the top PP unit? He could be the next Rafalski or the next Lebda, depending on how he develops. I think he will get a shot at the NHL in 3-4 years.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted March 4, 2011 He seems like a 4th/5th tweener. If he fills out just a bit he could quickly become Rafalski lite with better defensive instincts (even though Rafalski's defensive awareness is vastly underrated on this board).
