egroen 384 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 Yeah how amazing would that be if he all of the sudden started playing like Canuck Todd Bertuzzi? Crazy that one's game can drop so drastically so quickly. Every team he has signed with since has hoped for that... and been disappointed. I can't let myself get optimistic with him so I am saying 16 goals and 33 points in 41 games this season.

I am not too sold on it, to be honest. If it's a given he stay healthy (obviously it's not) I would still probably only peg him for 15-20 goals and 40-50 points. Which is perfectly in line with his salary, but he will likely miss time.
Slabby 3 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 I don't see Bert getting too many goals. He doesn't play that game anymore. He's old and slow, and he likes to camp out on the LW boards and center passes to the late man. I'm sure that's basically his job: break the zone and get the puck to Zetterberg. IMO, Bert will rack up a ton of assists if he stays healthy, and Zetterberg and Cleary will take care of the goals.
Guest lnvincible Report post Posted September 30, 2009 I think he'll have a good year this year, i have a good feeling about this years team!
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 I'm thinking 18-25 goals. I doubt he'll be in the top six all year give how many people are capable of playing there and how much Babs loves to shift people around when they slump. He's not terribly effective when he doesn't have elite players around him so this shifting will hurt his numbers. Don't forget that he played with Iginla pretty much all season. Playing with Datsyuk is a step up because he's one of the top playmakers in the game, but Zetterberg plays pretty much the same game as Iginla with virtually the same effectiveness when he's healthy. So switching from Iginla to Zetterberg won't cause a 10-15 goal jump in my opinion, unless there's a really impressive chemistry developed. Still, a guy who "only" pots 15 goals is damn good for 1.5 million.

Draperfan 104 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 14goals, he will be injured alot. I agree, but 14 is being generous,he is to lazy and slow i can see Babcock putting him on the fourth line.

The Red Wings didn't sign Bertuzzi to play him with Maltby and Draper. That was Patrick Eaves.
Jake Ryan 1 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 Man, it would be nice if this guy got on the juice and played like he did 10 years ago. He should seek Chris Chelios for his juicing, errrrrr, work out regiment.
kidish 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 I'd put Bert down for about 15 goals. A bit back he was paired with Getzlaf -- that guy is a good playmaker in his own right -- and didn't produce drastically, and then last season with Iginla he still wasn't exactly fearsome. He'll do what he was contracted to do, but I don't think it is to put up insane offensive numbers.

Then he will spend most of the time on the bench, because he is not second line material(third at best)if hes not producing Babcock wont hesitate to bench him

I played vs his Belle tire team several times a couple years back and one season he just balooned and seemed to be carrying some waterweight.
Superman54 91 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 if he reaches 20+ goals then I'm satisfied. Playing alongside with Zetterberg there is no reason he shouldn't at least get 50+ points.

Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted October 1, 2009 I've always liked Bert (except when that line of Bertuzzi-Naslund-Morrisson killed us every game!) and I was thrilled when he initially signed here. So to get him back was very welcome news. He's looked good this pre-season and I'm expecting him to have a good season, especially if he can click with Zetterberg. Keep in mind that 2005-06 was the last time he scored 20+ goals so 20 or more would be a very good result. I'm just glad he's healthy and that he's happy to be back in Detroit. I think the two make a good combination and we should look forward to a successful season from Todd.

JMNards 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2009 Your question about how many goals he will have is irelevent to his role on this team. Yes, as many as possible would be nice, however we should be talking about how many necks he will snap. The addition of Todd brings a much needed enforcer to this team that was greatly missed last year. For me it really is a love/hate relationship. Domestic abuse if you will.
