marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 I only got to catch the first period because I had to work. But if that period was a sign of what they will be like this season, then I'm all for it. They looked more inspired than almost any game I've seen them play last year. sputman 1,268 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) Hey, don't worry guys. Maltby is on pace for 82 goals. man look at those on pace stats! he's gonna tear it up this season! Edited October 3, 2009 by drumshanbo
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 man look at those on pace stats! he's gonna tear it up this season! He'll only take 82 shots this season - but they will all be shorthanded goals.
RedWingAbner 13 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 Impressions of the game-- Osgood was mediocre. Horrid rebound control. Brett Lebda thinks he is Paul Coffey. I counted at least three times where he rushed it, turned it over, and it resulted in an odd man break. Brett Lebda sucks. Filppula seemed to get some liberties taken on him. I think that he and Leino may need a bigger body to play alongside them to stop this from happening.
Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 He'll only take 82 shots this season - but they will all be shorthanded goals. Nice shot percent, so typical Maltby.
_Gassoff 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 Leino-flip, Bertuzzi, 4th line are the positives. There is absolutely nothing "positive" about Bertuzzi. Glad you have his pansy ass. I agree about Leino, though. I think he is going to be very good.
MadMan Mark 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 For all the talk about focusing on defense, that 5 min lapse in the 2nd cost the Wings the game. In addition, it's about time this team starts smelling blood and going for the throat. We tie it up and get a 5 on 3 and do nothing with it. I'm sorry, but if you have a 2-man advantage for 1:20, you should score. Too many attempts at the extra pretty pass. Put the puck on the net! Defense needs to step up big time today. Osgood will be fine as long as his D doesn't allow odd man rushes every other shift.

CenterIce 83 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 detroit fell apart when ericsson left. I think he is better than i thought. Ericsson only played 5 minutes. It was more not having all 6 defensemen in there, causing the other guys to play more minutes.
Pucks 66 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 Only took one game for Conn Smythe front-runner Osgood to get back into the doghouse. You people have short memories indeed. The only Conn Smythe Chris Osgood will ever win is My bronze leagues Semi annual Beer chugging contest. He's got my vote.
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 Crombeen and his line had room all night long. May would've stopped that. But hey, Maltby got a breakaway goal so I guess we're all good. esteef

Nothing positive for having a big top 6 forward for 1.5 million? That's one thing the Wing's have been missing in the top 6 is size, once Zetterberg recovers to game shape we'll see how big of an impact Bertuzzi has. Free_Candy 38 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 I don't envy you too much for having to travel so far away for the exhibition games like we did last year. But Wings are so loved in Sweden you at least have that going for you, and that makes being there special. But the travel and jet lag and the whole experience as far as a team trying to find their rhythm is just weird, it might even be that way even for a little while when they get back, I wouldn't take a lot of stock into these couple of games. Guest gofish Report post Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) 1. Brett Lebda was scary bad. He is like Chelios was last year, frightening to see come off the bench. 2. Lack of physical play. Last year the wings lost n game 7 because they were injured and beaten up. We picked up Big Bert, have a d-man that's 6'5 and two of the hardest hitting players in the league. Ericcson is scared to through his body weight around, Bert played well but i want to see that nasty streak he's known for. I know you can't sustain playoff level play for 82 games. But hit somebody, it is allowed and encouraged. 3. Osgood is gonna be Osbad again. Its time Kenny threw some money at a good goaltender. Giving up almost 3+ goals a game puts a tremendous amount of pressure on our scorers. I know this was the first game, and they were playing in Sweden. But they neither seemed poised or prepared to makea run for a tenth div. championship. Edited October 3, 2009 by gofish

Bertuzzi (Suzi) is a crybaby *****, piece of cheap shotting sh*t. F*ck Suzi right to hell. Enjoy him. You know, I hated Chelios, but respected him very much. I have zero respect for Suzi.
