Next to watching the Red Wings win; I love to watch Toronto lose.

The most arrogant, conceited, selfish franchise in the World is winless in 7 games and the excuses are already mounting. Yet we in Canada are still FORCED to watch these hacks every fricken Saturday night, regardless of how bad they suck. CBC get your HEAD out of your ASS and start to cover a competitive credible franchise! There is hockey outside of Toronto on Saturday nights, yet somehow the Leafs always manage to be the first game on HNIC, all subsidized by my tax dollars. It's now official, as long as this continues, the Leafs Stanley Cup drought will be knows as the HNIC Curse.

I wonder if the Maple Laughs will win a game this month. Its sad to watch a team do SO bad.

If it were any other team I would tend to agree with you, but what's really sad is having to watch Leafs coverage that is crammed down your throat by the Ontario-centric "national" media here in Canada. There are 5 OTHER Canadian teams, yet the Leafs seem to get about 80% of the air time here in Canada.

i hope that one day the jets and the nord's come back and HNIC splits tv time with the other loser teams. i would hate to watch my local team suck year after year...but seriously, i really hope the nhl brings those two teams back.

Thanx for the advice, obviously you are uneducated as to how the CBC operates. If you live in the US, your tax dollars do not go towards supporting one supposedly "national" television station that is suppossed to unbiased politically and geographically due to the support they receive from ALL Canadians from coast to coast. We have 6 NHL teams in Canada; all six should receive the same amount of air time, yet that's definitely not the case. Toronto is on HNIC every Saturday night, while the other 5 teams are shown on a rotating basis. What makes Toronto think that they deserve coverage EVERY Saturday night, yet fans in Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver are supposed to pay extra for Center Ice when we ALREADY pay for HNIC through our tax dollars? This isn't fair, yet it's indicative of the attitude Toronto media and their fans have towards the rest of Canada; they feel they should get first priority, which is bulls***.

If you knew anything about the National Hockey League, you'd know that no matter how bad the Leafs record is, they will always remain the most talked about franchise in professional hockey. Naturally, I'm a Wings fan, but being a Canadian, if it can't be the Red Wings, then Toronto it is. What is wrong with you?

Are you retarded? Or just dense? This has nothing to do with Center Ice. If you're a Leafs fan and I've offended you then you have my sincere apologies and are free to start your own topic. If you don't want to contribute anything to the discussion here other than offering me shopping tips than there's no need for you to post in this thread.

Can't handle the Toronto media? Sacrifice your NTC and get out of Leaf nation.

The problem is where Leaf media and Leaf fans believe "Leaf nation" to be: the rest of Canada outside of Toronto is NOT Leaf nation, 90% of Canadians outside of the greater Toronto area can't stand the Leafs and enjoy seeing them lose as much as I do, yet they are broadcast nationwide. If CBC wants to go to regional programming that would be great. Do you really think Calgary or Ottawa fans want to see the Leafs every week? Get a clue... Imagine this: all of Detroit is subjected to watching the Hawks on FOX Detroit every Saturday; Mickey and Ken are FORCED to cover the Hawks even though the Wings are playing at the same time, and you live in Detroit, not Chicago, yet Fox Detroit has decided that Detroit is now "Hawk nation" and you can't watch your local team because they like the Hawks more. Now imagine that your tax dollars go to paying for Fox Detroit, and without your tax dollars they would have gone under years ago. So you're paying for Fox Detroit, but they won't let you watch your local team, instead they show the Hawks games even though the Wings have a much better team and everybody in Detroit wants to watch them... now maybe you understand?

The Leafs have more fans strewn throughout the world than any other team in the league.

Bulls***. Absolute Bulls***. I've lived in BC, AB, SK and MB... gone to school in NB and worked in NS... and in every bar, every college pub, and every jobsite I've ever been in, there were fans from almost every team in the NHL and we always disagreed on which team was better. About the only thing we ever AGREED on was that we all hated the Leafs! It's a giant national joke that everybody in Ontario (where might you be from?) believes that the Leafs have all these mythical elvish fans across Canada that secretly worship the Leafs... it's absolute bulls***. You think there's a lot of Leaf fans in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Halifax or Winnipeg? Watch the next Calgary/Leafs game at the Saddledome... you can count the number of Leaf jerseys there on one hand. I've been to western Canada NHL and CFL games and the most popular crowd chant is "Leafs Suck", that's when they're not even playing in that game, and even at CFL football games.

Your post completey epitomizes the very ignorance and delusional misconceptions which ignites and fuels the "Leafs Suck" attitude across Canada, which in case you've forgotten, does indeed extend East and West of the Ontario borders.

Actually, I don't understand who's "forcing" you to watch a Leafs game. There's internet streams of just about every game out there. Some you pay for, some you don't. If YOU don't watch it, YOU don't have to see it. CBC plays what it'll get the best ratings for - aka they get money off of the Leafs. Not to mention that you cannot tell me there's a better team than the Leafs as far as ratings go. If you're in BC/Alberta/Sask/Manitoba then you're games are up to 3 hours later than the Leaf game. Consider that CBC is based out of Toronto, it's only logical that they talk about Toronto, right? Their main audience is Toronto, so why not talk about Toronto's team?

Maybe you didn't notice, but I live in "Leaf nation" which is truly a large chunk of Southern Ontario. It's not until you get closer to Windsor and the border where Leaf nation starts to die out. Further North you go in Ontario, Leaf fans begin to take over again. Go east toward Ottawa and you get a few Ottawa fans, which if you noticed on the schedule - CBC plays those games in the Ottawa region. Further East you get to Montreal, and over there they have stations that play Montreal games, and surprise surprise, cover the Canadiens to a tee.

Again, if you don't want to watch the Leafs, don't. There's plenty of internet to go around.

You raise some interesting points however you are premising your arguments on some rather dubious and innacurate logic: not everyone in Canada has access to the internet, and very few northern towns in the prairies (where your bread, beer and basic food products come from) or Rockies (large rocks in BC, you can look them up) have access to high speed internet. Again, it's not unexpected to see that Ontario residents are out of touch with the reality of conditions across the rest of Canada. Although CBC may be based out of Toronto, it is Canadian tax dollars from every person in every province that enables CBC to operate; their ratings are so low compared to any other USA network that they would have been gone out of business had they not been propped up by the CRTC and OUR tax dollars for years. As such, CBC should not put the needs of one "region" ahead of another, it should be EQUAL coverage of all NHL teams in Canada. The ratings don't really have any bearing on CBC's profits, they are a publicly funded company, funded through taxes. They are not subject to fair market competition or capitalist principals in the same fashion as television stations in the USA or other parts of the world are. The CBC could ostensibly have a 0% ratings share and it would not affect their bottom line as every cable, satellite and free-air television service provider that the CRTC allows to operate in Canada is FORCED to carry CBC in it's basic package, regardless of ratings, programming or customer preference - Canadians are not allowed to "opt out" of CBC when choosing programming or channel packages regardless of their provider (Bell, Shaw, etc).

There may be "plenty of internet" to go around if you live in Ontario, but once again, not every Canadian lives in Ontario or enjoys the same level of infrastructure and convenience that big-city dwellers do.

Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton fans aren't forced to watch the leafs. They play the second in Ontario because they play at 7 out west. Prime time. I'm almost certain that you get a different feed dependng where you live. Habs fans are watching the habs on CBC Ontario natives the leafs etc.

I respect and love the Maple Leafs franchise! Same with all the other original 6 teams! Never understood why some wings fan dislike the Leafs or Monteal for that matter? Not like we have to worry about them ever unless we would meet in the finals? I say root for them! Because of passionate fans bases of these respected teams i always thought we could learn a thing or two with our lackluster fan base. <_<

In the end, There are more leaf fans then all 5 other canadian teams combined.

Not sure about that. There's a ton of Habs fans. The Leafs certainly have the most out of the six teams, but not more than all five combined. A lot of people around here (I live in Waterloo, one of my dorm mates knows Jim Balsillie quite well and once hooked up with his daughter :P) actually really dislike the Leafs.
