Free deal soon to end and time to buy Center Ice

Well, the free October deal is soon to end and I called Comcast to seal the deal for the whole season. It's close to $200 and very few games are HD. I should get Comcast stock for free - I have paid about 2 grand to watch the Wings on TV since moving from Michigan. With this season not looking so hot and even getting words of caution from Jimmy Devellano... so what? It's my hockey team. I'll never stop watching the Wings. I watched them when they sucked, when they were great and whatever happens I will watch them now. Don't forget some of us can't just flick on a station and watch our team. We pay for it. Would you? Or for many of you, would your mommy pay for it?

So, other out of towners, both pissed off end of the world fans or die in the wool homer fans, how about you? Are you buying into Center Ice (or an online source)? If you want my advice, I say do it, even if it drives you nuts all season long.

Nope, I listen to the games online. That's just money that can be saved and spent on something else.

id like it alot better if all the games were in HD..but only local and national games are. once you watch a hockey game in HD you wont want to go back to regular

I don't have a choice! Center Ice says they will broadcast SOME games in HD this year, but I have yet to see it. Imagine how awful it is to watch the games in Standard Def on a HDTV? I actually bought a plasma specifically to get the best standard def image for hockey. Way better than LCD for this, but what a waste - a 1080p TV showing a game in standard...

this year, I bought the MLB Package. $160.

Living In canada, without it, I'd get about 10-15 tigers games throughout the year. I figured I'm paying about $1 a game, and it was worth it. I didn't watch Every game, but it was nice that Any night, when I dind't have something to do, I had the Tigers game to watch. I also found myself watching a lot of San Fran Games, As I was Excited about Pablo Sandoval, and had plans to go there to see a game (Which fell through) And with 4 separate payments of 40$, it became pretty affordable.

I'm an Ohio State Fan, But I also Like to Watch The Michigan games. Without the Big Ten Network, and having Canadian Satellite that carries the Boston and LA Feeds of Fox, NBC, CBS, etc. I'd end up getting to see a total of about 4-5 Michigan and Ohio state games Combined. For the entire season, plus all of college Basketball, it was $100, I think it was worth it, Even though I won't watch any of the college Basketball.

I went in with 4 other buddies to get the NFL Package. Again, having the Boston feeds of Fox, I'd literally only get the Thanksgiving day Lions game, so 50$ for the season wasn't so Bad.

I thought about getting the Center Ice package, and doing it before oct 31st. But the Red Wings this year just don't excite me. Having Canadian Satellite, there are 3-4 days a week where Hockey's on. I won't get to see many Red Wing Games, But they have a lot more national games that are available. And If I ever Get the Itch, Hockey games are probably the easiest to find on the net, especially a premier team like the wings.

I'm not going to get it in October, However, I might Buy it for the second half of the seaon, once the price goes down.

I am in Chicago and yes, I am buying the center ice package again. The $200 is hefty, but it's well worth it, especially if you are an avid hockey fan who enjoys all the other games, specials, commentaries, etc.

You weren't the only one. Pablo Sandoval is a flat out beast. The rest of the Giants lineup however is trash, except for the soon incoming Buster Posey however.

I was one of those lame-o's who got Center Ice for free when bitching at DirecTV. No ponying up anything this season.

Online for as long as I can. Saves money and quality isn't all that bad.

i am kinda confused as to the folks saying that they can't see HD games on CI. i would say well over 50% of the games are in HD for me. the biggest problem seems to be canadian feeds. they don't ever seem to be in HD. i also got it for free because of the versus directv battle though.

This.

Honestly I watch other teams games as a pretty casual observer, so I have no reason to sit in my basement with the HD and pay complete attention to a game when I can browse and do schoolwork on my laptop and see the same game.

Wings games are the only ones (and a couple others) I can actually fully concentrate on without being there live.

The last two years I've dished out the money for it while I was living at home for free... but since I've moved into residence here at university, 1) that money needs to go somewhere else and 2) I don't even have cable in my room so I'd have to pay for that too.

Not worth it, I can (almost) always find feeds OR just listen to it on 97.1 online.

Besides, I should be studying anyways. :P

I can live with it. It's not like it's in black and white. I can still see games. I can still see them very well.

I've seen hockey and other sporting events in high definition. I do like it. It's just not a necessity for me, spending unnecessary dollars.

While I like HD I just have never understood the droolfest to it when standard TV you can still see stuff fine.

Either you have really really good vision, or really really bad vision! :hehe:

Not all HD TV's do Standard Def equally, many show standard def far, far worse than a standard def tv...

I'm still on the fence with this one. Didn't jump on the Early Bird Special (is it still in effect?), and am getting a laptop, and thinking I could plug it into our LCD HDTV, but they REALLY need to get more broadcasts in HD.

If I could pick the broadcast (Ken, Mickey and Murph) and guarantee it was in HD, there'd be no question. I also like the idea of NOT watching games live and being able to fast-forward through them.

Center ice is awesome, I love being able to watch almost any game every night, but it's nowhere near worth $200 per year.

It depends on your perspective. I've gladly ponied up NHL CenterIce's fee each season in order to catch all 82 games plus every other NHL game. Now, NFL Sunday Ticket on the other hand...that to me is ridiculously overpriced for the amount of games you get, but it all depends on what your passion is and how much you're willing to part with.
