Both Z and D clearly went for a shot from the beginning the way they skated so slowly. Khabibulin could come way out and not worry about being deked.

100% correct. When players have 1 or 2 go to moves it is very easy for goalies to see when they change things up. It's not that Dats and Z are bad at shootouts, they just get very predictable.

I'm really glad they left Howard in this game. Even if it hadn't ended so well, these are good character games that will make him a better goalie down the stretch. It was never on him anyways, so it's a solid game for him all in all.

Holy crap they just came back from being down 4 goals...worked their ass off...PLUS a man down. Top that with OT...they had to friggin tired. Take the point and move on. we've been playing wings hockey last three games...couple more we'll be back in buisness.

How exactly do you consider allowing multiple goals a game, constant defensive lapses, shaky goaltending, and commiting boatloads of turnovers playing Wings hockey? I'm very thankful we got the point, but anyone who says the play we've seen from our team this season has been anything less than disheartening is only lying to themselves. We are much, much better than this.

Plus that last 30 second flurry he faced was intense.

I guess I can't be too upset, it was a nice comeback, but the game doesn't need to be a massacre before you show some intensity, fellas. Four of eight points on this road trip so far.

I really think the shakeup after Flip went down was a big part of it. I hope even if Flip's back in Calgary that Babcock continues to tinker. I don't think a single line we've had going should be locked in yet. It's too early with too many new guys to not experiment, even if we had had a better start. But we didn't. It's been a rough start. It's time to see what else works.

4th line was outstanding

leino is very unimpressive

dats needs to dangle in the shootout idk why he wouldnt

z needs to not take shootouts

cleary shoulda took the shootout knowning hes been kick ass against khabibulin

howard was good in the shootout..that was a spectacular shot by osullivan that beat him

idk still pissed..need to close it out in OT rather then shootout woulda been much better if we won i wanted it so bad after a comeback like that

I look at Z's shootout percentage that they flashed and I have to wonder... was that mostly like the first year they ever did the shootout, because I can't honestly remember the last time he scored in one. Actually... I do think I remember WHAT he did... it was the Forsberg Swedish Team Olympic shootout move... and it seems like that was 3 years ago. WTF, Hank?!?!?

DRW + Shootout = FAIL

At least the boys showed some serious balls in coming back from 4-0. I was ready to shut it off and end my misery and get some sleep, but decided to be a glutton for punishment. Glad I did. GO WINGS!

Our best and most consistence player gone? That's great.

:rolleyes: Filppula's been terrible on the PK lately. He was on the ice for both PP goals against tonight. He was on the ice for 4 of the first 5 EDM goals tonight too. So I'd say he didn't exactly have a night that qualifies for "best player".

His +/- so far? -6. Val needs to tighten up defensively because he's one of the most important defensive forwards on this team. Yeah we all appreciate his offense, but he's known for his defense and can't start sacrificing it.

Futhermore, the following forwards are outscoring him:

--> Zetterberg

--> Datsyuk

--> Holmstrom

--> Williams

So yeah, he was great early on-- definitely the best forward through the first 5 games. But now is he the best player? Not a chance.

After going down 4-0 I'm happy we could walk out of this game with a point.

Ericsson had a great night, aside from one bad turnover that didn't result in a goal but could have. Another 1 g 1 a night for Big E. He was a +2, scored the momentum generating 3rd goal and assisted on the game tieing goal.

So far this year he's:

3G 5A 8pts -3 in only 11 games.

He's also leading the defense in points while playing the 5th least time on the back end and having played 1 second of PP time all year. :thumbup:

With how terrible the Rafalski-Stuart pair was tonight I'm thinking we'll see Ericsson get top 4 minutes early in the Calgary game, with Babs giving him more top 4 minutes depending on how well he response in-game.

So in conclusion-- this was a game that started brutally with every player playing like horses*** and ended very strongly.

Again, just walking away with a point is huge.

So far we have 4 pts on this road trip. Holland said going in that the goal was to come home with 5 pts, so a victory in Calgary will salvage the trip.

True. He's been pushing more to put up the offense which is what everyone supposedly wants, but like many of us keep saying, he's not the most gifted offensive player. His strongest assets are being sacrificed based on the "hope" that he'll finally start scoring. It's not going to happen. He's a solid guy and important to this team, but offense is not his thing. I think it's good in some ways that he was the guy to go down solely because that 3rd line needed a shakeup if you ask me.

Oh wait, s***.

8 weeks, broken wrist, Babcock just confirmed.

Out for a game or two I think could be good for the team. 8 weeks is s***. That hurts.

But like Babcock said, it's an opportunity for someone to really step up.

Man, that's a huge ***** though. Who will center the third line now? Williams? Not a bad choice...

I was meaning more just in this game, up until he left the game.

And yeah his +/- has taken a huge beating lately, but honestly I think it has a lot to do with just being unlucky. Though tonight was his worst game defensively (though he was 87% in face offs tonight, and leads the centers in FO%) he looked like the only one who could get close to doing anything offensively. His passing is near perfect.

His passing has gotten much better in the last year, there's no question there. I'm really hoping this injury won't derail his progress. Hopefully he'll come back hungry and won't have lingering issues with his wrist.

Luckily he almost never shoots so the injury won't hurt his wrist shot. :hehe:

This is a terrible break for the team and for Val... but maybe someone else will do something with Val's minutes and we'll end up stronger in the long run.

Oh my what an embarassing game...wings would have won this if they had a goaltender who could stop a puck.. osgood doesnt care about regular season and howard will never be a nhl goaltender.. thing looks so bright.. not.

Did you guys hear ray ferrarro on TSN, i felt sick in my stomach because he bashed wings so hard and it was all true...
