plopster 136 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 So what does Ken do now? first off that loss last night can be attributed to a lack of offense and the third and fourth lines doing a bad job on defense. look at the +/- ratings from the game. We certainly need to hope those reports about lilja are true, so we can bring him in to get lebda out of there. As for replacing williams, does he get a FA, pick someone up off waivers? Or do we call up the young guys? I know Babs does not care for bringing up young guys who haven't proven themselves. He should also note the play of some of the guys putting up numbers now, especially on colorado and phoenix. It doesn't matter if they are young and inexperienced. Put them on a third or fourth line with no pressure and they can contribute. More speed and athleticism is preferred over older and experienced and slower and prone to injury. Tatar, McGrath, any of those guys can come up. So what does Ken do? there is no way from seeing the replay that williams is back in december. No way. that is a long term deal and almost certain to need surgery. I would drop Howard and bring up McCollum. Howard gives up way too many rebounds. That guy will not make it in the NHL. As good as Osgood has been, he cant play 75% of the games. It just isnt feasible. Decisions, decisions.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 Well, Illitch should probably sell the team. Trade Lidstrom for Avery. Bring back Probert, Kocur, Grimson, McCarty. Sign up Simon and Domi. Trade Osgood and bring in Belfour. ThAt's a good start. It's November 8.
brett 1,029 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) sign satan, forsberg, nylander, or shanahan or go the other way and sign biron or cloutier or waive lebda and bring up janik or kindl and a goal scorer or do nothing and hope for the best. for now realistically theyre gonna do nothing, stick with what they have and hope for the best might make a move at the trade deadline..but nothing now Edited November 8, 2009 by brett

So, I don't see the Wings bringing in any free agents. Also, with so many injured, your only trade options may be prospects, which they want to keep. I only see them short-term having Meech coming in as forward and Janik as an extra defensemen. The other scenario would be bringing up a Grand Rapids' foward, who can contribute offensively. Dano33 41 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) First of all, you can't just throw out Howard and bring up McCollum. What if McCollum isn't ready and is worse than Howard? Then we'd be in an awful situation. As for the rest of it, we can pretty much only bring up GR guys, unless we get some veteran (as mentioned above) for cheap. I think we just stick with what we've got. Edited November 8, 2009 by Dano33
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 We've tried and banked on the whole "Call up AHLers" bit and it hasn't worked as well as we would hope. Wings won't trade unless they can get a big name impact player in return, since we've already got enough veteran role players.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 Replacing Williams? Put Leino on the 2nd line and have Eaves-Helm-Draper & May-Abdelkader-Maltby as the 3rd and 4th lines. Right? And Meech is the 13th forward/7th D. Williams was maybe our most expendable player.. he really wasn't doing anything useful out there. Shame about the injury, but it won't bring this team down if losing Filppula and Franzen hasn't. This team won 3 straight before the Leafs game. They're one point behind the Hawks. No need for panic mode just yet.

DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 Holland is going to sit on his hands and do nothing, like always. theres not a ton he can do. there are a ton of injuries right now and last thing that they would want to do is sign somoeone then have another come back and have to let someone else go. heres my answer but kenny cant do it by himself. get rid of the cap and we'd be golden

robat 13 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 Craig Custance of The Sporting News tweeted this today, Even though trades are tough, there will be plenty of talk at GM meetings. Said one GM: "Injuries right now necessitate more discussion." So I @ replied him and asked if he was quoting Ken Holland and he replied with: @robat19 No. But here's what Holland told me: "If you’ve got some injuries, no one is really excited to give you a helping hand." And hope Ilya doesn't leave for some place that can pay him 10 mil a year when we can't at the end of the year. I'd rather not.
FedorovMan91 1 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 First of all, there is no reason we bash Holland. He has nothing to do with injuries for key players. You cannot go out and trade or sign some 2nd and 3rd line offenses now. Franzen and Filppula are out by other teams, not by Holland. I did not watch the game but the game clearly showed the score the Wings got dominated. Compare to last season, at the same time, the Wings looked to play better although last year's team won more games due to the offensive power. I will wait until the end of November, the time is yet to panic. People should calm down and watch more.
swiss_fan 3 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 They will sign Nylander and then may be dump him when Franzen will be back... if we don t have injuries untill that point..
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 I have an idea, let's panic after every. single. loss. because nobody EVER loses a game in the NHL other than the Red Wings! And let's panic in November that we are just completely f**ked beyond repair during a season that doesn't end until at least April!!!
