11/14 GDT: Ducks 4 at Red Wings 7

Ryan, Perry, and Getzlaf are the only players the Ducks have that can consistently produce. Hiller is a decent goalie that can be a great goalie at times but I really don't see any depth on that team. They have to roll Getzlaf 30 minutes a night and it's going to kill him long-term.

Here's what I'd do with the full roster all healthy:

Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Leino-Zetterberg-Ceary

Bertuzzi-Filppula-Williams

Draper-Helm-Eaves

I think we have such good young players and depth it's stupid to be so thin on the top 6. Filppula is our 4th best forward, and to have 3 players playing above him, who aren't as good as him, is silly. Well have a lot of depth and should make use of it.

Datsyuk Zetterberg Holmstrom

Franzen Filppula Cleary

Bertuzzi Draper Williams

Any mix of Eaves, Helm, Maltby, May, Miller, Leino will be good.

I also just wanted to make a note of the fact that the Hawks lead us by 1 pt with both teams having played 18 games. However, the s***hawks have played 12 of their 18 games at home, while the Wings have a perfectly balanced 9 home 9 away schedule so far. On the road the Hawks are only 2-3-1 (which is the same winning percentage as the Wings when it comes to road games).

Furthermore, after this game the Wings rank 1st in the West in Goals For per Game and 4th overall. However, they're a pedestrian 17th overall in Goals Against per Game.

In the power play the Wings are ranked 1st in the West and 3rd overall. However, once again the goals against are killing them-- with a penalty kill ranked 27th in the league. :(

The biggest mystery is why the PK is so terrible on the road vs home. At home the Wings are tied for 7th in Power Play Goals Against. On the road? They're tied for 20th in that category. It's a similar situation with the PP, but not quite as dramatic-- 3rd in PP Goals For at home and 14th on the road.

Team should ride Howard until things go south.

Last season ring a bell? :P

Conklin was never really cold, but they knew they had to get Ozzie going as quickly as possible. Although Ozzie hasn't been bad this year, he's still not up to his 07-08 form.

Zetterbergs new nickname should be Curly Fries.

Did Arby's start the hat trick deal last season, or does it date back before that? Because if it started last season, this is the first time they've ever had to pay out, I believe.

Wow, I hope Arby's doesn't go under because of this. What a treat.

To be frank it's extremely unlikely, even in the hard economic times we're in.

An order of curly fries is what, a dollar or two? Multiply that by the population of Michigan (the absolute maximum number of people that would qualify for it), and at most it would cost a couple million dollars in what's probably a multi-billion dollar company.

My guess is it will cost them a couple thousand dollars (possibly a couple hundred thousand at most), but people will also probably buy a sandwich with their free fries (or a drink), and actually MAKE money on the promotion.

If they went through with this contest without planning for a single payout, let alone the worst case scenario, they deserve to go under.

I imagine they actually end up making money in this situation. Enough people will buy something else with their small curly fries to justify giving away the fries. Plus how much does one of those fries cost to buy? $1.00? That means they're worth only pennies in material costs (noting that in this case other overhead isn't necessarily important to factor in). What percentage of people will buy something to go with the free fries? I'm betting a good chunk of them will.

I'm sure they won't. This summer they gave away free roast beef sandwiches whenever the Tigers hit three home runs in a game, which was several times.

Just got back from the Joe. Perhaps best game I've seen yet. Most exciting 3rd period of hockey, that's for sure. Crowd was GREAT. Will post a video of crowd reaction to Z's trick empty netter.

Yes and no. This is the first time they've had to pay out for the Wings, but IIRC the deal also applies to three home runs by a player in a Tigers game, which I vaguely recall happening last season.
