mmamolo 287 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 After looking through some stats and reading some daily Red Wings articles NIklas Kronwall's stats popped off the page. Currently he sits at 3 on the team in points with 13 in 18 games played, behidn only Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. That currently puts him on pace for 59 poitns on the season which will be an improvement on an already solid year last year with 53 points. Here's the link to an interesting article: Niklas Kronwall

Nev 1,085 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 What I've really noticed the last few games is that he's really shooting the puck. I don't just mean letting go wristers from the blue line, but really winding up and cranking a slap-shot. His shot accuracy has always been one of his weak points, but he seems to have really worked on it.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 I've always thought Kronner should be able to put up some great offensive numbers.. I think he has a 20 goal/50 assist season in him.

Right now that seems like a bit of a stretch but his numbers have improved every year he has been in the league. Plus with Lidstrom and Rafalski's offensive production soon to be declining Kronwall will be looked at to pick up the slack. I definitely think it's possible. I agree...krons has a great shot and when he is a bit more patient with the puck, as he has been in the last 5 games, he can be an offensive threat for sure. He will be the team leader in points in 2 years I think

He will be the team leader in points in 2 years I think I dont think he'll ever lead the team in poitns while Datsuk and Zetterberg are here but he definitely has a shot to lead the defensemen in scoring, that's for sure. If he continues on his hot streak I wouldnt be surprised to see him get some first unit PP time. In some ways I almost feel like it would be good to put Rafalski on the second PP unit at times because I think he can be a better passer than Kronwall. I wouldnt mind seeing: Lidstrom - Kronwall PP Unit 1 Rafalski - Ericsson PP Unit 2 Both units have a great passer and a good shooter. Plus Rafalski and Lidstrom both have seeing eye shots at times. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 what is his projected hit total, for him that is important too Not really. From a total hits perspective, his totals over the years haven't been that great and I suspect if you were to do an analysis of last year, he'd be in the bottom half of the number of hits for defensemen. People just tend to think otherwise because he tends to have more dramatic open ice hits. That said, his hit totals are up this year quite a bit over last year. That said....again....hit totals are a bit of a flimsy stat, not every building awards them consistently.

Kwame_Kilpatrick 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 i think he is an elite player. it takes confidence to go for those big open ice hits and he always times them well, that takes poise as well. also he has some dangles, i have seen make some great rushes to the net when a lane opens. and he always judges when to make those well, not like lebda where he always races up and takes a crappy wrist shot. also his slap shot is booming he just needs accuracy. i think he is better than rafalski and he is like konstantinov only a better attacker and maybe a lesser checker but still good
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 yeah i totaly agree with this. he makes smart big hits...never the little ones that add up. i think this is so key to his success. he picks his hits very well and when they connect end up being effective. its better than him just hitting everything that moves, possibly creating chances for him to be caught of position. besides, thats what we have helm for (hitting everything that moves and creating costly turnovers) i also like that kronwall has been jumping into the play at smart times, inching towards the crease and putting up big shots without compromising his postition, unlike lebda. I'm not sure there's anyone better at doing those stutter-steps on the blueline to get around a defender.
