Officials...Conspiracy or Incompetence?

If there's a conspiracy, do you think it'd ever be made obvious enough that a good percentage of an internet forum would be able to guess it?

What's more, if anyone believed there was a conspiracy, do you think they'd risk being publically ridiculed to admit it? Just look, it didn't take long before the tinfoil hat picture was put up. All you'll be called is a Mulder if you think anything but incompetence.

Personally, I vote incompetence from the top down, but after the Cup final last year, a little bit of me will always think someone is (NOT fixing) heavily influencing what's going on out there. Do you really trust this league? Gary Bettman? Really? I don't.

There's a lot of truth in this, particularly the second paragraph. There's always the straw that breaks the camel's back for someone, and they come out and say, "hey, we're the target of stuff like this way too much" and then people sigh to themselves and think, "finally, someone else noticed" and they in turn give their thoughts. It is only a matter of seconds before the wise rise to save us from our folly by pointing out -correctly- that conspiracy theorists are usually nuts and that we must stop thinking for ourselves and take the wise and mature route of denying all conspiracy theories.

Personally, I think it was just a human error compounded by the inability of said human to admit said error, but if it does come up that there is anything funny going on, those who have been saying so all along deserve to gloat in full glory and the rest of us ought to meekly listen like we've been forcing the conspiracy theorists to do.

^I vote you, sir.

Oh no, I think it's great that you hate the Yankees! Are you kidding me....it's fantastic! People like you put a smile on my face. :)

That being said, a Yankee Haterâ„¢ and a non-Yankees fan are two different breeds of fan. See, you said you hated the Yankees, then you said you were a Sox fan. That sent up a red flag in my mind. A non-Yankees fan would have just said they were a Sox fan, and the fact they dislike the Yankees would have been understood. Bless you people.....bless each and every one of you.

That being said, I think we've both derailed this thread enough with baseball talk. ;)

But I am glad you grabbed one part of my post, the irrelevant part at that, and took off with.

You are right it is derailed enough.

I change my original statement to the following:

If league were to come out and admit the were in the wrong from the start, people would be less likely to treat the sport as second tier.

Better?

No problem. It's hard to tell on the internet. Not like my typing has boobs.

At least we had decent officials tonight. I just hope Larue got scolded in private for that call.

I officially give you the Mental Image Of The Night Award.

Hahahahahaha...

Oh typing that has boobs... Someone should photoshop that image.

Most guys would be all over that keyboard. That's right. Candidate for 'Grossest' Image of the Night award.

That would be me typing with my boobs. (Old age- I'd need a winch to get them to keyboard height.)

After tonight's display by Laroque (who I quite liked until the Kronwall hit), I think we'll have more evidence one way or the other of our conspiracy/incompetence debate.

Incompetence= "The Habs should probably tell him not to do that anymore because someone might get hurt."

Conspiracy= "There was no hit. The wind blew Kronwall down in an awkward manner. Actually, the wind did not blow at all, but there was intent to blow, and so Kronwall went down."

Watch the NHL highlights of Philly versus Phoenix, after the Coyotes 2nd goal which appeared to be on an offsides play, Dan Carcillo is seen screaming "f*** you! Wake the f*** up!" at the linesman who was at the bench explaining why the play wasn't called dead. Pretty funny stuff. The play appeared to be offsides, incompetence on the part of the linesman.

Nothing in this world really surprises me anymore and it wouldn't shock me if conspiracy might play a part, but I'm not wasting my time trying to find a conspiracy.

It's largely incompentency of officials as well as rules that aren't clearly black/white.

Personally, I've been impressed by the lack of miscues on the part of the officials in the last month. Perhaps this is the time of year Bettman refers to when he speaks of "getting it right 99% of the time".

the call back on the sedin goal was bulls***. inconsistency in the way they call em. the nhl needs to rethink its kicking policy. You should be able to score with your feet as long as you don't lift your feet in the motion. this is easy to check, rather than whether the player intentionally directed the puck in the net

Coaches should be able to challenge a questionable call by the official as they're able to do in football, as well.

I'd go along with that if it weren't for the Intent to Blow It rule and other ones that allow officials to make judgment calls beyond that of football officials.

I'm with you. I seriously doubt there is any "conspiracy," which would need to be a spoken agreement. But I do think it's more then incompetence. Like in the Wings final against the Pens. I seriously doubt anyone told the officials to help the Pens, but there were endless reasons for the officials to know the league wanted the Pens to win and created a mindset to see things in that perspective. I'm even sure if you hooked them up to a lie detector they would all pass the test they believe they were fair. The human mind has an incredible ability to see things in a way that is favorable to ourselves as a bias. I think the NHL is more biased then the other leagues in the league wanting to select winners and that is clear to the officials. Then again, they are also incompetent. :0)

Intent to Blow really needs to go. What a horrible rule. Unless the official is knocked over or physically impeaded, then there should be no Intent to Blow call. It's the same as saying that because the goalie had intent to stop the puck, the goal shouldn't count.

That one is bizarre. I meant to make a mistake, but I didn't, so we need the mistake to stand...
