If the league is going to punish players as harshly as they do, then the same suspensions need to be handed out to inadequate referees.

"It was a goal,'' Babcock said. "I know what the league said, it's non-reviewable. The guy never meant to blow the whistle, it was a shot. It was in on the shot. It's as dumb as I've ever seen.''

The referees did not review the play until receiving a call from the league office in Toronto. Even that wasn't enough to reverse the call.

"After I shot it, I didn't see it go in, but (Auld) was trying to pull his foot out, and clearly, it was in the net,'' May said. "I just saw the highlight of it. I have no idea why that's not a goal.''

May said there was no reason for the referee to even intend to blow the whistle on a shot from the slot.

"I recognize the referees are in a tough spot, (but) they have video replay for a reason, to make the right call in those circumstances, so it makes no sense to me,'' May said.

"I think it's a joke. It's a 2-2 game, it's a different outcome for us, and frankly, I'm not happy.''

What's so secret anyways that they just can't be entirely open about it?

Edit: Now were stuck not knowing if the refs or NHL made the call, who do we blame? who do we trust?

we trust no-one but ourselves.

NHL is Bettman

Refs are well refs

you guys gotta hear the Dallas feed, it even more convicing that Mickey/Ken on the Detroit feed. They just get a laugh out of the whole situation, can't bame em.

If I had the power, I would tell that ref. "I intended to fire you last year, you're FIRED"

The NHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy added this:

In this particular case what happened is we (in the League's video replay room in Toronto) see the puck in the net and call the video goal judge and say, 'Blow the horn and get the referee over here. We see a puck in the net that hasn't been ruled a goal,'. At that point the referee comes over and we have a discussion. They came to us and said, 'My intent to blow the whistle was there, I have this play dead before the puck crosses the goal line,' No more needs to be said. Once we hear that, video review is out of the process. It's a call made on the ice and it's a non-reviewable call. It's a whistle blown by the referee and it was blown or the intent to blow it was before the puck crossed the goal line.

However Murphy also added this:

In all cases we want to get the right call. In this case it is clear we didn't. In some cases when you have video review people expect perfection and that's never the case. There are times when we don't want video review to intercede. We don't want video review refereeing a game.

Believe it or not he's probably not even the worst example.

No he was just the one caught.

Listen I am as big of an MJ fan as a white kid who can not throw a balled up piece of paper into a dumpster can be. But the refs won many, many games for him. And the lakers game that Donaghey constantly uses as an example of other ref collusion, is a horrible horrible scandal of refs being involved with Gambling and I would not be surprised to see it come out in every sport!

Someone just needs to get caught. Like Steriods.

GPS is a satellite transmission. Of course it's not that precise.

This is not a matter of some giant scanner knowing where the puck is all over the ice. It's a matter of a few chips or emitters inside a puck being detected by sensors within four feet of the puck. Say there are sensors inside the goal posts and crossbar which create a sort of field the puck would have to pass through to enter the goal. The FoxTrax puck system wouldn't work for this because it was based on similar technology to GPS; it was an imprecise location based on an in-arena satellite. Another advantage to my system? The nets could be set up so that when knocked off, the gate is deactivated but the clock is still stopped. Now we just need someone to design the actual programming and get the technology working together.

This makes no sense.

The US military (its our satellites afterall) restricts accuracy on GPS devices to within a few meters. Military GPS devices can gauge in inches (or maybe smaller).

There's auto car alarms designed for Jeeps and similar open vehicles that work off high frequency sonar.

The technology is there.

seriously, LaRue is the worst official in NHL history...

That one was blatantly worse than all of O'Hallaran's combined -- however, O'Hallaran made many of his calls in the playoffs, where the implications of his botched calls could have been far greater.

LaRue let Pittsburgh have 6 skaters on the ice for more than 30 seconds in a SCF game...

once again... LaRue is by FAR, the worst official in NHL history

all this intent... why was he intent on blowing the play dead on a legimate shot on goal? was there a delayed called that would have nullified the play the moment May touch the puck? I think not. that was bulls***

then to add insult... allowing the puck to hit of Jimmys skate into the net for th 3rd dallas goal WHAT.THE.f***???!!

Bettman is such an arrogant ******* -- listening to him on NHL Live.

Essentially saying if they reviewed this it would get out of hand and fans are essentially idiots for thinking otherwise.
