Pucks 66 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Aren't you going to chime in with your beachball pic? It was a weird ass play. I would've loved for Ozzy to make that save, but it's not one I'd point to as evidence of what's wrong with this team or his play in particular. (Because I do think he has not been as good as the team needs him to be right now). They need some key players to step up and help right this ship. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Osgood. I'll post the beach ball pic after the 5th one goes in. Should be sometime in the 2nd period after about the 8th shot.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 You can add Lidstrom to that list, unfortunately. you're right! The fact that he didn't even come to mind may be a sign of how mortal he's looked so far this year.
aflac9262 211 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 I didn't feel the no goal was that bad of a call. We've seen worse, haven't we? Ozzie is going to have to play better than that and give his team a chance to win. I mean the shots are 15-6 Detroit and Calgary is winning 2-0. It's simply not good enough. I wouldn't mind seeing Howard for the second.
Dynheart 42 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 I cannot see all the Ozzie hate here. The first goal was on the defense. When you have 4 guys covering 1 guy, and the goaltender facing 3 calgary players, he covered his side of the net. No reason why the defense shouldn't be the blame for that goal. The second...well...ping pong bouncy bouncy. All these people here think goaltending is easy...it's not. "Oh all he had to do was jump across the crease, contort his arm in an abnormal position to make that save! Osgood sucks!" If your offense isn't getting it done, and we lose 2-0, 1-0 it will still be the goaltenders fault. People will nick pick what he should have done to prevent that goal so we could take it into OT to get atleast a point. IMO, 1 goal was all D, that shot would have went in on any goalie. Impossible one timer to stop. The 2nd goal...well, he could have saved that, but look at it this way. If he went into the butterfly to cover the five hole, and the same play happened, the guy would have picked an other spot to shoot, and prolly still go in because the puck was everywhere. Hard to read and commit to a shot that bouncing all over the place. My guess he was waiting for the puck to settle down before commiting. Unfortunately he wasn't fast enough to make a point blank five hole shot. Flukey goal imo.
Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 If my sole job in life was to take punches to the face, and my friend was roughing it up with a group of punks two millimeters from me, I'd be ready for a punch, regardless of where it came from. Don't add to the question...just answer it as is. would you be expecting YOUR TEAM MATE or friend to shoot the puck at you or punch you in the face? and if he did would it be YOUR fault? Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 How many times is it now that the Wings have been f***ed over by the officials? Three times? That call was some high quality bulls*** right there. Wings PP. I hope you mean just this season. Detroit has been consistently screwed by the officials in recent years. Firehawk 305 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 unless there's a Calgary fan in here.... yes. Seems like night in and night out we're the better team and wind up trailing due to the dumbest of plays. This team is no longer "the better team" on most nights. Most nights they are at the same level at best. With all these injuries, we are missing so much talent and so much finishing power that we can't expect to see the same type of game that we are accustomed to. I jsut hope they hold on close enough to the playoffs so that come March we can get the injured pieces back and get into the playoffs healthy. We have had such a good run for such a long time that our turn for this kind of season was long overdue. I just hope we do finish and go to the playoffs. No playoffs would really suck. Better yet, why don't you watch some other hockey games. Ones for teams you don't care about so you can have a dispassionate view of the game. Watch the defense, the goaltending, etc. Then come back and hopefully you'll have something to add to the conversation other than appearing just to rip on goaltending. Ozzy has not been good, but to just blame him is grossly oversimplifying it.

Vladifan 680 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Yes, the Wings are not looking at all good. And I'd say for now that's all the bad luck they need. But these refs, along with most of the NHL refs, have the credibility of WWA refs. Cleary's skate blade is in the crease. Goal gets called off because it's "interference". Kiprisof (sp?) takes out Homer at the knees - ref is right there. NO call. And how many times have we seen at least two opponents in the crease with Ozzie - or pile-ups in the crease - and he's trying to stop the puck. Puck goes in. NO call. It is insanity. It is inconsistency at its worst. It borders on criminal because they keep getting away with their arrogance/ego-calls/stupidity/laziness. No consequences. No retribution. Like I said, it's bad enough watching the Wings struggle like they are. With the refs' calls, I honestly do not know how much more of this s*** I can take. Carman 387 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Oh I agree Dynheart the whole team isn't playing well. But when you are struggling you have to have your goalie make saves. It starts with the goalie, if Osgood makes some key saves it will help the confidence of this team, something they desperately desperately need. I'm just hoping Osgood can play better that's all, because if he continues letting in soft/bad goals this team is going to have even more trouble trying to gain confidence. Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Oh don't make excuses for Osgood. That was a bad goal due to lack of focus. He will be the first one to tell you that. If a puck is loose in front of the net and you don't have your five hole covered you aren't playing well. Osgood has not been covering his five hole all season this is just another example of his positioning breaking down. He would of had that in the playoffs no problem. Not making excuses for anyone.. why isnt anyone faulting Datsyuk for shooting at his own net? did he forget who he plays for? ITs always Osgood this and Osgood that. Sometimes he deserves it I will admit that...But when your own team is shooting the puck at you... what the Hell? it was 2 on one and ended up being 4 on none by the time "E" dropped the ball and Dats forgot what net he SHOULD be shooting at. Detroit has had a few choice calls go against them, but it's not like over the last few seasons they've gotten regularly screwed. I would say that the most debated and heavily observed referee blunders have mostly come against Detroit of late, including the called off goals, the clean hits that have resulted in ejections... and Holmstrom alone gets more physically abused than any other player in the league, and yet draws next to no penalties. stuck in socal 56 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Aren't you a great fan. Everyone else is just complaining. Look the wings have been on top for some many years and a year like this was expected. WE were told to lower our expectations and this is why. With the combination of the offseason and the injuries this season is not going to be good, and you need to get your head out your butt if you think this Wings team is going to contend for a cup. Pucks 66 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) It would be interesting to see how many goals have been waived off or called back against the wings in like the last 2 years including playoffs. Then compare that to the rest of the teams in the league. I think we'd win by a landslide. Edited November 28, 2009 by Pucks
