Wow, I have to start catching more of these games. Tatar just won't slow down it seems.

Same here. I normally dont watch many Griffins games, but from what I have seen Tatar is a beast. I think he should get a few games in with us this year, and start to produce even more than he is when he is put on the 1st line with the Griffs. How many points does this kid have in his last 5 games?

But I'm still tempering my enthusiasm until we see this play continue into the long term. Leino was as hot as this for the first quarter of the GR season but after Christmas he slowed down significantly when the grind of the AHL schedule finally caught up to him. Now in the end he played great and lead the AHL in playoff scoring through the first 2 rounds on the back of his 1st round points (he was something like a 2 ppg player in the first round).

Now to be fair there's nearly an eight year age difference, so we can afford to let Tatar learn to get past the pro hockey wall. It takes all prospects a bit to recover from the huge difference in games and scheduling that happens when the transition to an 80/82 game pro league.

I hate when people say Tatar should get games with us. He's a quarter of the way into the AHL season, his first AHL season. If he does get called up how does that look to all the other prospects that have put in their 2 or 3 years down there to get skipped over on a call up for a guy whose played a quarter of a season?

He shouldn't get a game this year, based on his stats maybe near the end he deserves it but he doesn't deserve it based on the time he's put in.

Some of those guys who have "paid their dues" aren't really NHL material. Tatar is a promising offensive prospect, of which the Wings have few of. If the Wings need somebody to play minimal minutes on the fourth line or ride the bench, sure call up one of the career minor leaguers. but it sure would be nice to see what a guy like Tatar could do on one of the top two lines.

He probably will slow down, I'd be shocked if he didn't. He's inexperienced and the AHL schedule is challenging. But it's like you said - there's an 8 year age difference between Tatar and Leino. Tatar has plenty of time to figure out the more difficult scheduling.

How many minutes has he been averaging per night?

Before he comes to the NHL, I really want this kid to bulk up a bit more. I'm not saying the AHL is a soft league to play in, but the NHL is definitely a step up. I also want the Wings to develop this kid to the max before bringing him up into the NHL. I feel like this kid is one of those rare opportunities to get a true all-star player, but the organization needs to develop this kid properly to get the most out of him.

lol you refered to him as "this kid" four times in one paragraph.

Youngest player in the league

played 5 less games then everyone else on the team

4th on the team in points :yahoo:

I've had the same reaction every night he's scored so far. I'm so excited that he keeps meeting my high expectations. I can't wait to see how he does long-term. Like Zetts just said-- he's got tons of time to figure out the AHL schedule and bend it to his will.

haha, how did i know from the title of this thread that Drake_Marcus would be the author of every other post lol. This is not an insault by anymeans and I dont know him personally, but i follow his posts religously and know he LOVES this kid. Looking at his stats and potential i can see why haha

Hopefully we let him mature a little bit more before we bring him up, although id love to see the wings have a rookie raising some eyebrows in the leage....but i think he has a better chance of doing that if we let him develope a bit more.

I hope he gets brought up for a few games so gets a taste but that they keep him mainly in the AHL this season. And then next year he'll hopefully explode :D.

I don't think we will see him this year unfortunately. Maybe if leino continues to be garbage or another injury happens. It would be nice to see him get a couple games though to send him back to GR with the hunger to dominate the AHL and be a regular in the wings lineup next year

This. Hopefully Tatar keeps it going. He looks like a pure goal scorer.

look we have not drafted or acquired a world class player since zetterberg okay for god sake

actually kronwall is world class so nvm but still

jimmy howard may become world class

I guess we haven't met our "world class player" quota per Kwame. Fire 'em all.

Players like Zetterberg only come around every 10 or so years(at least outside of the top 5ish picks) if your lucky especially if we are just solely talking about development and not via trades or free agency. We are just lucky as hell to have gotten Datsyuk along with him.
