Don Cherry and the like to blame for hockey violence

From Toronto Star :

As expected, Don Cherry came out swinging Saturday night.

Responding to comments from Dr. Charles Tator that the brand of hockey Cherry promotes is contributing to head injuries, the Hockey Night In Canada mainstay lashed out at what he termed a "totally unfair" attack.

"You know, I give it out pretty good, I dish it out," Cherry said during his regular Coach's Corner segment of Saturday's hockey broadcast on CBC.

"I've always been taught if you dish it out, you gotta take it. And I usually take it, but this is totally unfair for this guy to say that I'm responsible."

...

Good for Mr. Cherry.

are you effing kidding me?

I am not the biggest Don Cherry fan but to say he is responsible is just absurd!

"He's a negative influence," Dr. Charles Tator told CBC News in reference to Cherry, a popular personality on Hockey Night in Canada. "The aggressive, lack-of-respect hockey that he preaches — we need to get that out of the game."

He and Micky both preach constantly about the lack of respect hockey players have for each other, with the hits from behind, the hits to the head, etc... In no way do they ever suggest that player A causes any harm to player B.

This doctor knows nothing about sports or hockey!

Cherry is as ignorant as they come, but he is not the reason there is violence. 95% of the time violence is brought on in the form of retaliation or revenge. Not because of Don Cherry.

The real guys to blame are UKRedWing and GMR.

I've watched enough games while chatting with those two in real time and I can definitely say being in their version of hockey would look like a prison gang fight. A prison gang fight where the opponents wear knives on their feet.
